Hey All,

I am stuck on getting Cooper Stts within a week or so .....much of you probably already know. I was wondering if anyone has the STTs in 265/70/17? PROMED says they probably will fit in my spare too. I also like how the mileage wont be off as bad as the 285 STTs.

My problem is I am afraid I will get the 265 STTs but then be bummed they are too small on my lift. Does anyone have pictures of 265/70/17 Stts on their RIG???

or should I just say EFF it and get 5 285/70/17 STTs and leave the 5th one in my garage and be done with it?

IMO....Keep the largest spare you can underneath, buy a couple of plug kits and get some on board air or a little CO2 tank.

A 275/70/17 will fit in spare tire carrier. Josh has a 285 in his but he has a light panhard bar rub AND he has his exhaust modified.

I just thought of this idea....THAI??? Can I get some seasoned thoughts too??

ANyways...If I go with the 285/70/17 and I am concerned about the spare ..could I buy a 285/70/17 used tire (one that would fit the spare location) like this one

and mount it and use that as a spare??? That way all my tires would be the same size if needed

For me, i would ALWAYS get a spare that matches the other 4 tires in diameter. This was one of my biggest headache when upsizing my tire for my G500. It took me years to finally come up with an economical solution to my spare tire cover. Until that time, i had 265/75/16 (32") tires with a 265/70/16 (31") spare. I was always paranoid about popping a tire and then having to use the spare to drive home. Not sure about the 4runner, but i am sure that my Mercedes ESP (stability control) and ETS (traction control) would go bongers with different diameter tires!

I think that you are OK to use different category tires (AT + highway tire) as long as their diameters are similar...it does not have to be exact, but it should be as close as possible. I don't like to play with chances when it comes to tires.

Whatever spare that you use, i would make sure that it does NOT rub on anything (e.g. panhard bar). I don't like rubbing period. Yeah, some rubbings are harmless (e.g. mudflaps or inner fender flares), but i surely do not want anything to rub on my suspension components, no matter how light it is. Why? Because you cannot predict how hard/severe the rubbing will be when you are off-roading and bouncing around.

Another minor point is that you really do want the same tire category all around. If you blow a tire deep in the middle of nowhere, then you need your spare to be equally strong to get you back to civilization. A weak spare will only make your nightmare worst. Like i always say...if you're gonna off-road hard with your 4runner, then properly equip your 4runner!!

Finally, please remember that i am a very cautious/conservative person...i do not like surprises when i go off-roading...so, take my words with that in mind. :)

Good luck in your choice.
