New tires for fightman???

Well, small update:

I ended up selling my Mickey Thompson 245's for $375.00 yesterday. The buyer took my stock wheels with the tires still mounted and then just returned my wheels today. Now I'm looking for a used set of either another M/T or A/T, and hoping to buy them for about the same price I sold my other tires for. Those Mickey Thompson's were an AMAZING deal for that guy.....kinda hurt letting them go for that little, but I really want to run something bigger this winter, and can't justify buying another brand new set!

Anyway, I'll keep you all posted. So far the best deal I can find was a set of 5 285/75/16 Dink Cepek MT's for $500.00, but they only have 50% tread left...my Mickey's probably had about 75% left!

Anyone have any input on the Dink Cepek MT's???

So I take it you don't run the Bighorns in the snow? I can see why, I thought mine sucked this winter. They are great off road though.

I thought mine did pretty well in the snow.. They didn't really slide all that much and they self-cleaned well. I don't put them in the mud at all so I wouldn't know (I hate mud). I do know the bighorns do great on rocks and trail. The only complaint I have is they are pretty soft so they chunk really easily in the rocks and they wear fast. With the usage I put them through I'm expecting about 30k before I prob get rid of them as a craigslist special. If I run them dry I'm hoping close to 37k.
 
DC mudders ar noisy and who ever is asking $500 for a 50% worn set of those tires must have seriously bumped their noggin. Those tire are not that expensive Maybe about $200 each (last year) tires have gone up since. At most you should pay is $350 for them.

even then that a little high imo.

Yeah, I don't run the Bighorns because they are on my Aluminum wheels, and the salt would just destroy the finish on them.

The Bighorns do clean out pretty well in the snow. The one trip I did take, (when I smashed my bumper actually), guys were telling me that the snow was just flying out of the the treads!

I'm thinking I can talk him down, but that's a set of 5. Another thing to take into account, is we're paying Canadian Shipping when we buy new. A set like that would easily run him about $1500.00 just for the rubber. They tend to rape us on the shipping from US to Canada. My spare Bighorn cost me $330.00! The rim was extra with the Center cap and lugnuts....all together, that New Shiny Spare cost me $612.00 with shipping and Taxes!

I figure I might offer $400.00 for the 5....and see what he says......

HA HA HA! I've never seen that brand here......main companies are BFG, GoodYear, Mickey T, **** Cipek, Michelin, and only heard about Maxxis because the guy at NAPA had a great deal on them for me...when I bought my wheel and tire combo....at the time....$1500.00 taxes in...shipping included! Can't even get close to that anymore!
 
If these are for winter use only, have you looked at Duratracs? They are severe winter rated, and make winter driving a pleasure. They may not bog through the deep stuff the same way as a MT, but they make stopping and turning on hard packed icy stuff much less dramatic. If you run them in the winter only, they'll likely last you as long as you own that truck.

Im sure you can get the treadwrights cheap.

I always forget that some members here live in canada, Sounds like the MAN has his hand in your pockets pretty deep. I think the set of 5 mudders for $400 is a good enough deal.

I cant believe $330 for a maxxis bighorn. They are about $700 for a set of 4 on ebay (255/85r16)

Too bad you're so far away. I have a set of used 265/75/R16 Firestone Destination MT's that I am trying to get rid of. Shipping would be killer for you though.

I had thought about the Duratracs...but would have to find a used set...as I don't have the money to buy new.......only have about $400.00 to spend! lol!

Yeah, taxes and boarder fees, and shipping alone is rediculous! Even the Brand new BFG's are out of my price range....only have $400.00 to spend.

The 265's are too small for what I want......looking to have the same size all year....and those are my 285's.

how far into canada do you live? it almost sounds to me as it would be worth making a day trip into the states to buy a new set of tires...

Been down that road before......I don't have a passport, and therefore can't cross at the border. Besides, I'm not buying new......so will just end up buying a set a good used set..... HOPEFULLY

I have a friend who works at a wrecker, and he is seeing lots of trucks come in with Duratracs on them, they are a very popular tire right now. You could try calling around and seeing if any local wreckers have anything for you, maybe even leave them your contact info if something comes in.

There doesn't seem to be anyone selling these things used otherwise, that should tell you something about them.
