My '07 SE V6 4x4 should have new tires before this winter. I have been following most threads and my question is: The cheapest highway A/T is probably the Toyo Open Country A/T ? or is there anything else? Would love GYSA, Revo II, but have been mostly unemployed for 4 years now. Married life. 900 miles round trips for family visits take me over 4000' passes. I live in a 4 season area. ya, some snow. ideas??

the toyos get good reviews,Toyo Open Country A/T Tire Test - Four Wheeler Magazine i cant see that the price it much less than the other 2 u mentioned, depends on size, 265/70/17 AROUND 130 - 145, GYSA 255/75/17 AROUND 111, the REVO 2 are alot more around 185+, ive had both the revo 1 & the gysa, both are very good, i give a slight edge to the GY if u like a quiet slightly softer riding tire with the symbol, that will still handle & ride well with half the tread gone. so unless u have to have the 265/70 s id say maybe the 255/75 GYSA at 111 might be nice, get em while u can cause they're discontinued & supplies are short. but imo, any of those would be fine.

Of those two, I'd personally go with Toyo. Of all the Goodyear tires I've owned, I wasn't impressed with any of them. Mostly because of inability to balance issues.
I just got a set of Toyo HT's in the LT265/75R16 C size.They are very quiet and smooth riding. I live where we get a lot of snow, but I believe they'll do fine with their siping and the sharp edged tread blocks in the middle of the tire. I learned to drive in snow in an early 70's V8 powered rear wheel drive car on all-season tires. So with the four-wheel drive of the 4Runner, and modern tire technology, I'm not worried at all.
You are right, tires are not cheap. The tires I bought were priced at $228.11 each at Les Schwab. They can be bought for less, but I was trading in some Toyo AT's in the same size, and with the trade and that particular stores outstanding customer service, I got away for significantly less than full retail.
Overall I couldn't be happier. The camera is giving me problems, but I'll try to get some pics up.

:It is a Southern Oregon Les Schwab that listed $834. for the Toyos. I have 17K on the Dunlops. Comfort is an issue. Keeping up with the 4x4 in a problem is next. thanks, will makes a few more calls, but I guess all LS shops will have consistant prices. I'll try neighboring cities next. fun times.

ive heard some people complain about goodyears but ive had them on 3 different vec.s over the years & never had a problem with my shop balancing them, they've always said it took very little weights & was easy. it may just be the machine in the shop that some people use or it could of been the wheels or type of weights used, wrong load range for they're taste, etc. i still have the GYSA on my stock wheels, only reason i didnt reuse them on my new wheels is they didnt give me the truck like ride i wanted. in all honesty tho, i have recently heard of someone having balancing problems with the 255/75 size, maybe thats why its now discontinued, havent heard anything negative with the 265/70 tho, in fact if u search the forums, they get very good reviews in that size.im kinda curious why did u choose those 3 tires theres plenty of great ones out there, hey, maybe go to a cooper tire shop & see what they have to offer. but either way, yes, the days of 100 bux a tire are gone. goodluck in whatever u choose.
