New tires<>open to suggestions

It's almost time for new tires for my '99 Limited 4x4.

I'm after the best possible ride with reasonable tire life. My Grandtrek AT21's have been good but I'm hoping for a better ride. This is my daily driver and I don't want to put the most expensive tires available on it. I don't take the truck off road, so that is not a concern.

I asked about the same question last year. If your concern about a good ride go with Michelin Cross Terrians, but they are expensive. I have also heard & read that Toyo A/T are good for on road handling. I finally went with cross terrians after Costco had a $60 coupon. Making them around $100 more than Toyo A/T. Another possibility is Michelin LTX, slightly cheaper than cross terrians they and has a good ride and better off road ability.

Overall I am very please with Michelin Cross Terrians and I am hoping they last a long time to hopefully defer the extra cost.

I'll also mention the Michelin LTX. I have them on my '01 now and it was a huge improvement in ride and a slight improvement in handling over the Bridgestones that came on it...
I wanted to go with the Cross Terrains based on user reviews and feedback, however, these were also rated very highly and they were a good deal less money.
I am very pleased with them. Very quiet as well.
I will probably go with these or the Cross Terrains when the new truck needs new tires as well.
 
Ditto to everyone above. If you can afford them, get either Michelin CrossTerrains or LTX M/S. CT's are better for on-road use. LTX is a little bit more off-road oriented (a tiny bit). Another tire that is cheaper but just as quiet is Bridgestone Dueler H/L.

My 1999 RX300 came with Bridgestone Duelers, but I can't recall which variant. When they wore out at about 38000 miles (3/32 on some grooves) I replaced them with Cross Terrains. The Cross Terrains were slightly noiser (1 db or less), but I was very happy with them. They were still in great shape at 63000 miles when I sold the RX300, but I don't recall the tread depth for sure. I think they will last longer than the Bridgestones did. I used them off road very rarely and very lightly. I did have good luck with them on muddy dirt roads.

I currently have LTXs on a 1992 Explorer that I frequently use off road in very rocky, thorny terrain. They have been surprisingly puncture resistant. (Unfortunately, not puncture proof.) The tread has been chewed up some by rocks, but not as badly as with knobby off road tires. I condsider the LTX to be more than a little bit superior to the Cross Terrain off road, but I don't have enough data to be certain.

Likely, your RX came with the cheapo Dueler H/T, which is also found on some 4runners. The Dueler H/L is much different in terms of ride/handling/noise and durability. The H/L should last almost as long as the Cross Terrains.
 
I checked some prices at Costco for your size tire (16" tires, if they are 15" then they are cheaper), simply because they are on-line and cheap.

Bridgestone Dueler H/T $99 & $108

Michelin Cross Terrians $155 & $158

Michelin LTX M/S $150

That is for each tire, so that should give you a basic idea of what some of the tires we are taking about are going for.

I have used Michelin in the past and have been satisfied. I think it is between the Cross Terrian's and the LTX's.
 
My '01 came with the Dueler as well, although I don't know which type...
I will say, and this was a big deal to me, that they wore out very quickly, at around 37k or so...
To me that is not a good tire life and it is why I looked to other brands for the replacements.
 
The Revo's look interesting. I just read some good reviews on them. They look a bit better than the CT's I saw on a Blazer today.

What would you estimate the tread life to be?

this is just a guess as this is my first set of revos, but with 11k miles on them so far, they still look and ride like new....id guess about 60k+ miles easy.....guess will find out in a few years:D
 
I have the Bridgestone Dueler H/T's on my truck right now (that's what they came with.) These tires are pretty quiet and ride decently, but I'm not too sure on the wear. I've got 12k miles on them and they *look* like they could go quite a while longer. Once these wear out, I plan on switching to the Michelin Cross-Terrains based on the good things I've heard about them.
 
Need advice on new tires?

So the time has come to replace my tires because they're all worn out now and I decided to come here to my fav forum for help.

I currently have the stock tires, they are Bridgestone Dueler H/T P265/65 R17 110S.

If anyone has any advice on what would be some good replacement tires... I would really appreciate it.

Some notes:

I don't do any offroading. I drive mainly highway miles. I like to have a smooth quiet ride, but want something good in case of rain. Oh yeah, I'm in Southern Cali - LA area.

Also, if anyone can recommend a certain shop/dealer that has good service to go get this done at.

i've been happy with my bridgestone H/L Alenza's on my 4runner. very smooth and quiet on the road, grippy in the wet stuff.

on a side note, in reference to my above post, i still got my revos on my truck with 40K miles on them and they still look handle great. awesome A/T tires:D
 
Shops....

I've bought tires from America's Tires for years. Veyr good service, good selection and good prices.

I've also bought three sets of tires from Les Schwab. Good service. All three sets were Toyos. However, they were too pushy in truying to sell me their siping add on. Had to tell them NO, NO, and NO again and again. I'd still do busines with htem becuase they are pretty fair and reasonable.

Look into the Revos , they come in that size , look good and are great in wet weather
