Hey guys, just got a new set of 265/75/16 Toyo Open Country a/t's installed yesterday and I have to say I LOVE THEM! I know there are some that feel iffy about the treadlife but for the money and the quality of tire they are great. Anyway, I noticed today while on the interstate that my cruise is now working very different. It kicks all the way down to haulin-a$$-mode on the uphills much earlier and stays in the lower gear much longer than it used to. Also, on downhills the cruise shuts down all together until the desired speed is reached then it kicks back in, not at all the gradual deceleration it used to do before the new tires. Any ideas? I was under the impression that the new size wasn't adding all the much more rolling resistance but it sure seemed to eff with my cruise control!

I understand the effect of greater rolling mass on gas mileage, breaking parts, and engine output. I fully expected all of that and it's not that noticeable. However, I hadn't heard of anyone's cruise going awol from this slight tire size increase. Is this really that common? As long as my cruise still works I could care less, I just want to make sure it's the tires causing the issue and not something else failing.
I have a '97 SR5 4wd with the Toyo Open Country A/T's in 265/75/16. I have had them for a year and my cruise works the same as when I had my Open Country A/T's in 265/70/16. So, I would not think the tires would have much to do with it.
PS. i got about 80K miles out of my first set of Open Country A/T's, and I do not rotate them like i should. They got rotated mabye twice in their lifetime.

I obviously don't know how your cc worked/felt before you changed tires, but from your description, it sounds like that's normal. My cc will hold the lower gear as long as it needs to if I'm going up a hill. I've noticed if I have another person in the car or a bunch of stuff, it will hold longer on the same hills. Mine will also shut off on long decents until it gets to desired speed and then it comes back on (the light stays on the whole time though). Hard to say over the internet, but it doesn't sound like it's malfunctioning to me.
Thanks for all the responses guys! Yes, the tires were balanced properly, no there is no shaking to the truck. I adjusted the crusie cable going to the throttle body today and it seems to have helped a bit, like I said it's nothing I can't live with just wanted to be sure it wasn't the cruise module going out on me or something. I will take a drive out in the hills sometime in the next few days and report back.
