New Tires

I have the 2003 Sports Edition V6 model, and may be replacing tires soon. I only have about 36k miles on it.

If you read the owners manual, it recommends including the spare as part of your rotation.

Therefore, when you guys get new wheels, do you spring for 5 or 4 new ones?

I think this strategy works if you have a repairable flat, but if you have a blowout, then you will have to replace two tires at the minimum.

May have to replace all 4 tires for those with full time AWD.

True, in my case I have 265/65/17's that are 30.6" tall. I want to replace them (when the times come) with something closer to 32". A lot of guys go for the 265/70/17's. To do a short, run to a tire place with an odd sized spare is probably fine. It may trip a fault light.

Tires never blow during normal, daily driving it seems. It always happens many miles from and at an inopertune time. For that reason I'll buy 5 and continue to 5 tire rotate.

I only did the 4 at first but since I am takeing a couple long road trips this winter I figured I should have the right size spare vs one that is almost 2 inches smaller

If you are sticking with a stock size, no matter the tread, I have always gone with 4 tires. If you get in to upsizing, as it was mentioned above, that can cause a problem due to rolling diameter differences if you were to put your stock spare on with 3 upsized tires on the other wheels.
