new tires

im a newb and have searched all over but couldnt find an answer so some help would be nice...
sooo i have a 98 4runner and just got some bilstien shocks and struts. now i want some bigger tires.. will 32/11.5/15 tires fit on my 15x7 rims? and is regearing neccessary for this size tire?

Are you sure you want 15 inch wheels. I only ask because those brakes are smaller. If you buy new tires it will be more expensive to upgrade. I am putting 265/75/16 size tires on my 4runner tomorrow. They are 31.7 inches according to the spec sheet.

x2... Good time to move to 16" wheels and then you can fit a brake upgrade in down the road.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about regearing. Just taking the circumference of your new tires, divide by stock circumference, and use that as a multiplier to your speedometer reading.

some Runners came stock with 15" rims-sounds like yours did. Check the door jamb to be sure.

Stick around here long enough and people will have you spending every hard earned dollar on your new to you ride.

If you go upgrading to 16"rims yes the stock size is 16 x 7 JJ. Upgrading the brakes is not a bad idea then as well. Some guys even suggest the Tundra brake upgrade at that point. However once you do so then you'll not be able to go back to 15s as your rims will not fit over the bigger brakes.

If you're perfectly happy with 15s then run with those for awhile. Particularly if you have the 4 cylinder 4Runner or are 2wd or both. Just my .02-

15 inch tires tend to run less $$ than 16s that is for sure....

11.5s sound a bit wide of tread- but feel free to get a variety of opinions. 235/75/15s are a popular size and 31/10.50/15s are just a bit bigger. Again your door jamb will show you what was stock when the vehicle was built.

thanks ron! yeah my car is 2wheel drive and 2.7L hahaha i think ill just keep the rims and get 31/10.50/15. I do want to take it to some trails sometime soon and do some mild offroading. any suggestions for tires? Thanks!

since you are 2wd I would just get some decent AT's. BFG, Nitto Tera Grapplers and then a good but less expensive one is the General Grabber AT2. you should be happy with any of the three of those.

i have 15x8" wheels which are aftermarket though and im running 31x10.5 tires. i got the firestone destination a/t which are a very nice tire and very quiet on the street. im 2wd and 99% a street runner. destinations ranked excellent on tirerack.com. im planning to do a small lift with tall coils just to bring it up a little but not too much. too much lift and 31s tend to look too small. i have a 97 2wd by the way that came with stock 15s. good luck. i had a post in the offroad section, i showed pics of rims with tires on it.

You should have at least a 8" rim for that size.

You can run 31x10.5x15.
