New to 2nd gen 4 runner

I have a '92 4runner that I just purchased. Looking to get a little more power out of the 3.0L V6. I am pretty familiar with the older 22re engine but new to this engine. Any pointers would be great. I am mostly a subaru junky but this should be a fun change of pace.

This is my first post so hopefully I am not posting this in the wrong area.

You're in the right area. As far as power out of the 3.0, your barking up the wrong tree. The 3.0 doesn't respond to aftermarket parts that well. The best bang for your buck are new headers and exhaust. That will give you the most power increase. Also I suggest doing the ISR mod. Search for it on here or yotatech. There are some great writeups and it makes a good amount of difference. I can notice the increase around 3k rpm and I can hold speeds better up hills. Other than that, just clean everything and watch out for a blown head gasket. Good luck!

Thanks for the info on the isr removal. I agree with you that on most cars after you remove that it does help quite a bit. I am fabbing a cold air inlet for it with cone filter adapter. Also I have a msd blaster ss coil I am going to install along with the msd wires. Exhaust will be soon to follow that.

I did the ISR mod and used a Cone filter at first.... It worked good but sounded awful while idling... I put the stock air box/K&N stock replacement filter back on with the ISR mod still in place and it actually gives the truck more power versus the cone, and its ALOT quieter.

It doesn't matter what year your 2nd gen 4R is, unless it's been swapped chances are it'll be pretty darn slow. I wouldn't worry about too many engine mods, maybe full exhaust but I would pick up a set of factory 4.88s if I wanted more oomph.

I did full exhaust on my 22R-E, gonna do the Supra AFM mod (can't do this on the 3VZE) and that's it.
