First off yes I have used search and i cant seem to put anything together. My question is what is the best way to do a small lift. Its a 2000 4runner sport with stock shocks and springs front and back. I just purchased some new bilstein shocks and will be installing them very soon. For the moment Im only looking to get a small lift about 1"-1.5" any suggestions guys? Thanks in advance.

I have a 99 with tall springs. I also just bought new Bilsteins for mine. I'm going to run a Toytec 1/4" spacer in the front with the stock tall springs and I'll be running Old Man Emu 906's in the rear with 10mm spacers. Should give me just a very slight rake.

Okay but I'm confused. Why is there a taller spring in the 99 4x4? And why did they stop making them? Whatever the answer to that question, to clarify I'm correct in assuming just tall springs all around will give me my desired lift right?

I don't know the answer to the first 2 questions but the 99 springs may not give you a 1" lift over what you already have. It really depends on what your ride height is right now. Different year springs have different heights.

The 99 4Runner 4X4 came with the tallest springs, therefore, by installing them on your newer and shorter T4R, you will get the 1" lift you desire. Your best bet will be to get them from the dealer, or you can shop around at some Junkyards for a low mileage set. BTW, Toyota stopped production of the taller coils, because many SUV's of the same era were rolling over, and they didn't want to have the same issues with the 4Runner.

As far as searching for info, your best bet will be to look here:

There is a wealth of knowledge in this thread, and will be good reading for anybody who is contemplating any kind of lift. Even a modest one.

Take a read, and let us know if you have any other questions.

Found this quote from the FAQ thread which pertains to the 99 Springs:

"The 99 Highlander Springs
If you want a small lift or have worn out springs, a good option might be to change out your springs for springs from the 1999 4Runner Highlander Edition. these springs sat 1" higher than any other 3rd Gen 4Runner. They can be ordered online or at a Toyota dealer.

99 spring part numbers:
Front Passenger Side Springs - Blue / Yellow (48131-35400)
Front Driver Side Springs - Blue / Pink (48131 - 35350)
Both Rear Springs - Yellow / Red (48231 - 35210) "

Thanks fightman, there is a lot of different opinions on here and its hard to figure out which ones to trust. I just dont want to dump money into springs for a few hundred dollars, as i would buy them new, and not get the lift im looking for. I appreciate the response. Im only looking for a mild lift now, just to give some more clearance and make my runner more trail ready. In the future im looking to have something similar to bigfishalldays (i think thats his username) runner

This is what you need to do to see what to expect from 99 lift springs to be absolutely sure you're gona get the full 1" lift you desire. Park your truck on the most level spot you can and take a measure from the ground to the edge of your flare...then ask someone on here that has the 99 springs to do the same and get their measurements, compare them to yours and you'll see how much lift you will get.

I believe my 96 springs are taller than say 2002 springs, therefore if I got the 99 coils my 96 would gain less lift compared to the 2002 due to the fact my 96 coils were taller to begin with....make sense?

The post fight man gave will give you a good idea but like others said, different years were different heights. I'm adding the small spacers to mine just because it will be apart anyway. No point in taking it apart twice. And the spacers are relatively cheap too.
