New to 4runners...???

Hey guys, I am new to 4runners and have many questions. I am in the market for a 96-2000 and not sure what lies ahead. I currently have a KJ jeep liberty and had all intentions of fixing it up, until I found out that I couldn't do what I wanted to do to it....(not without spending WAY too much on a jeep that was almost worn out). So here I am, contemplating buying a 4runner.

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do to it once I get it, but I'm thinking about a 3.5-4" lift, not sure about what size tires... nothing huge, but definitely big and head turning....

My first question is, in going with the big tires after a lift, is it necessary to re-gear rear-end? I'm being told by "Jeepers" that in order to go with a 265/75R16 on a Jeep Liberty, I HAVE to re-gear to 4.10 or I will be extremely unhappy, (horrible mpg, trans constantly shifting at cruising speeds, no power). That is just way too much money for me right now.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

My advice would be a 99+... quite a few more creature comforts in them =)

I don't think most folks re-gear until they start looking at tires much larger than the 265/75r16's...

With a Toyota you'll find regearing to be a much more simple, and cost friendly ordeal.
