New to 4runners

I'm about to pick up a '90 4runner with the v6/auto. It has 220k miles on it. I'm getting it from my father-in-law. He bought it for my brother-in-law to drive. well long story short...it's for sale lol. They bought it not to long ago. They guy they bought it from had "new" heads put on it. I say "new" because I'm sure they weren't new lol. It seems like it the cat is stopped up or something. Other than that, it just needs new tires. I'm getting it for $800. It run and drives fine other than being sluggish lol.

My plans are to use it as hunting/play vehicle. I'm fixing to check on a cheap set of 31x10.5 BFG ATs to get me by for now.

Sweet deal. A muffler shop will check that cat for free or next to it. Check it for signs of a bad head gasket, those motors are known to have that trouble if they aren't kept right. BFG ATs are good tires, hard to go wrong with those.

Thanks. I will definitly check for head gasket leak. The only time I have seen it was at 11pm saturday night lol. I did get to drive it that night tho.

Im hoping the head gasket is good. From what I have been told, my father-in-law bought it from the previous owner while it was still in the shop (or shortly after getting out of the shop, its someone he knows) getting the heads worked on or replaced. It definitly has some kind of exhaust issue tho.

Timing Belt

Try to find out the last time the timing belt was changed. I'd had my 4Runner for 5 weeks when the belt broke. Turned out the Tensioner pulley locked and ended up shredding the belt. If you can't find out when it was last done, might want to check that too.

It should be getting delievered to me tomorrow. Now I just need to find some tires for it.
