New to Board

Hello all,

I've been reading this board for a long time and this is my first posting. I have a 2001 4runner Limited 4X4, I added the supercharger and exhaust when the truck had only 500 miles. It now has 83,500. I just went through a "check engine" problem code 0171 and they cleaned the mass airflow sensor and then ran a smog test and it turned out there was a small vacuum hose leak behind the intake. The guy said when I re-oiled my K&N filter it messed up the MAFS but I have been doing that for what like 8 years and never had an issue before. Other than that my 4runner has been solid, no major issues other than routine maintenance although I know I'm in for a doozy at 90,000 miles. Something else interesting about my 4runner is that I'm still on my original brakes....3rd battery, 3rd set of tires, yet the original brakes.

The oil from the K&N filter can mess up the wires on the MAF. You can try some MAF cleaner that is available at your auto parts store.

welcome neighbor. if you are still getting the CEL throwing P0171 after you fix the vacuum leak, you can check the o2 sensor, the pre-cat one went on my wrangler and it threw the same code.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The color is "Thunder Cloud metallic". I added black pearl emblems when I bought it. The TRD and supercharger emblems came with the kit so i put those on myself. I am tempted to try the blue light mod so many of you have done to your interior. I don't see how to take off the middle trim piece that covers the radio, AC, clock and middle vents area. I actually like my running boards and couldn't imagine them not being there, but, I also don't take my 4runner off road. I am going to have to try and resize some pictures to add on.

No, that's the center diff lock you are seeing.

the center diff lock button is on the left of the steering wheel? i thought that was the rear diff lock.

Yes that button is known as the center differential lock. I don't know of any button that locks the rear differential.

i think its the same with all of the 99-up 3rd gens but to get that trim off its actually easier than the speedo. I watched the stero guy do it this way but just grab right under the upper vents and pull! and that whole piece should just pop right off and vuala! you have accsess!
by the way nice looking rig! the 2 tone looks sweeeeeet. Welcome to the forum too!

It's quite easy, I just found out how a few days ago:

I used this write-up to figure out how to remove the cup holder and shifter trim panel. Then once you have the shifter trim panel off, just pull the remaining panel off starting at the bottom and popping it out on the way up. Don't be afraid to give it a little tug.
