New to forum-Cowgirl looking high & low for leather front seats

I just purchased a 98 ltd. not in great shape on the interior, but has everything almost new with the mechanical parts. Do you really sit that low in these cars....The tan leather seats are horrible (NEED HELP WITH REPLACEMENTS) and need to be replaced and/or repaired. Any suggestions where to go here to find them? Should i reupholster or buy salvage? I don't think seat covers will help with the feeling of sitting so low? I am excited to be here and my 230,000 mile 4runner looks like it will last a long time with care and help from all of you out there.....Texas Cowgirl

The seats could be in bad shape from fattys sitting in them for 230k miles, or your truck could just need some lift!

I would go sit in someone else's 4Runner to see about the seats, and then maybe look into some new seats, or some seats from a junkyard if you're going cheaper.

Stock the 4Runners are pretty low, and I forget how low until I see a stock one sitting next to mine. My girlfriend and her mom always say they feel like they sit up too high when they drive my truck, so I dunno.
 
4Runner seats do sit more car like than truck like if you compare them to domestic truck offerings. Very possible with that many miles on them though that the seats are really warn. Another option would be to stop by an auto upholstery shop and get an opinion from them on what the seat would need. But never hurts to stop by some car lots and sit in a few others to get a decent comparison.

I'm actually going to be tearing into my drivers seat soon to fix a failing spring to help with my back discomfort before taking it on its x-mas journey this year. Might give you an idea of what your in for if you decide to repair vs replace.
 
I would also suggest sitting in some other ones to see if it's the seats being old and worn or just the style of the seats and go from there. Might be year based too. Try some '01-'02's. Just look on your local CL for dealers who are selling 4Runners. Try to find ones with lower miles.

Post some pics of it when you get a chance too!
 
where in Texas are you?

there are many Gen3 4Runners in the auto salvage yards around north Texas, some with leather seats still inside...
 
My seats has about 320,000 miles of the 280lb previous owner sitting on them. While he did use sheepskin seat covers the entire time he owned the truck, I doubt that your seat cushion could be any more broken down than mine, which is not at all! I imagine your leather is just badly worn. You can replace the cushion for under 200 bucks if you feel like you are sinking into the seat.

I found a website that seems to be a listing of junkyards and body shops that have all sorts of parts. The site is www.car-part.com. I did have some luck finding some seats from a 2000 T4R Limited. They were in pretty good shape - just needed a deep cleaning and leather conditioner. Good luck and hope this site helps you out!!!

the local Jeep club turned me on to that website a month ago, which has been a big help

If I were you...save yourself a lot of time. Just order a set of covers from Katzkin.com for your Toy. The leather is second to none! You design your seat...all leather, leather/suede, solid color, two tone, piping, embroidered with lettering or logos...they'll do whatever you want. And best of all...they feel so good to sit in!!

Katzkin covers are good but not cheap. . Other than I don't have leather in my 3rd gen and I got mine w/ low miles so the seats you may have are worn and not kept up with. . or you have the seat adjustments all the way down. .
