New to forum, question about towing

Hello Folks:

My name is Claude I am from London, Ontario, Canada. I traded in my 2004 Murano for a 2005 4runner Limited V8 with 115000km. I am so excited I feel like a school girl on her first date. Well maybe not quite like that, but excited anyway. I get to pick up my baby from the dealer tomorrow.

Quick question about towing. I am going on a camping trip with my 2500-2750 lb trailer. I don't have the break controller setup yet. The trip is is 400km one way. I figure the 4runner can handle the load and braking of the trailer for one trip. Thoughts???

Congrats on you purchase!
No worries, you will be fine.
I have towed my boat (3200 Lbs) for a past 10 years, it is single axle and no brakes.
For nine years I did it with my old 4runner (1996, with 3.4L) and for the past year with 2005 V8 (4x4). Even with my old truck, I never felt that braking was an issue.
Of course with my new truck I can’t even feel the boat.
Just be careful with the skinny pedal, that V8 is a beast: do not stretch your trailer. :biggrin2:

It just takes a few seconds to hook up an e-controller, the chassis pigtail is near the parking brake actuator, buy a something like a Tekonsha Prodigy which can be had w/ a dedicated plug in harness from the controller to the chassis pigtail

We tow a pop-up camper that weighs about the same as your trailer all the time. No problem. I believe Michigan requires brakes over 3000 lbs.

Welcome to the forum. I'm in Brantford but work and soon moving to London. Maybe see you on the road.

As for the trailer, as long as you're under 3000lbs you are legal in Ontario without brakes. Just leave lots of room ( for the other idiots on the road who don't know about towing). If you are over weight and have an accident the insurance company won't payout.

It would be safer to get one eventually. They're not that expensive and simple plug and play install.
