New (to me) 04 4runner

Well, I signed for and picked up my galactic gray 4runner yesterday with 94k on her! Luckily my brother works at the dealer, so for some money he owes me I'm having him:

install my new radio (came with one without the faceplate)
change all fluids (tranny, engine, coolant, diff)
replace fender flare clip that broke
check normal wear stuff (balljoints, boots, etc.)

Normally I'd do most of this, but this is just easier as I don't have the time right now... Is there anything else I'm forgetting?

Some minor issues we didn't notice on our recent purchase that we had to correct later:

- Cabin air filter - cheap & easy to do, but one that seems to get missed

- Ensure all interior lights work - some of the AC control lights were burned out, we checked the headlights & tail lights but forgot to check all the interior lights

- Weather stripping around windows - looked fine when we got it, but upon closer inspection it was seriously cracked around 3 of the windows

I would log on to the Toyota website to check the previous dealer maintenance history based on the VIN. That may indicate if the timing belt has been changed, along with other general maintenance items like oil change, cabin filter, serpentine belt, etc.
Another free thing you may be able to squeeze out is a tire rotation.

Actually, it's the v6 so I have no timing belt (one thing I liked about it).

I forgot to mention he's changing all filters as well as fluids, so I think that's taken care of. I pulled the pinstriping yesterday as I just didn't care for the silver on gray look. To go close to stock looking I got the double-din Clarion cx609... looks pretty stock, changable color, and bluetooth integration (I hate talking on the phone while driving).

I just got mine in the middle of July and did many of the same things you did.

I had to replace the rear gate window weather stripping and the passenger side rear door weather stripping. Takes 5 minutes each and the parts are about $15. The rear gate just pulls off. The rear passenger door has an allen screw on the inside of the door near the pillar (took me a minute to find that one) and then basically just pulls off.

I also flushed/changed the fluids, replaced the wiper blades, installed NKG Iridium plugs, Installed HIR bulbs, KYB GR2 shocks front and rear and did the brakes.

If it makes you feel any better, I bough mine with 100K and just put an extra 6K on it in a month driving around the country. Not a single mechanical problem.

Funny note: During the middle of the road trip ,I was just at Jiffy lube getting the oil changed. I looked over the guys shoulder as the put in the filter information and noted that they charge $59.95 for the cabin filter. I replaced mine with a $9 one from O'Reilly/Checker. Look at all the money you saved DIY.
