Hey Everyone,

I decided to upgrade and sell my 1997 Limited to my boy and now I'm not so sure I made a good decision!
I bought an 07 Sport, V8, 4x4 with 45K. It has a 3 inch Toytec coil lift, K&N Cold Air intake and a Borla dual exhaust.

Here's the issue. I have noticed a brief screeching noise. It only happens occasionally, lasts only a second and the previous owner says it's a valve release of some sort???? Sounds like it comes from the engine compartment but not sure. No idiot lights other than low tire pressure. (bearing in something maybe?)
Also...I noticed that at times when I'm just sitting at a light...it will feel like it downshifts again. Is any of this normal for the 07's or did I just get screwed? Other than these two issues...the truck runs nice. Still under the power train warranty...maybe.

Any input or ideas? The folks I bought it from seem like nice people but...

Thanks

Based on the mods, looks like he used it for offroading and such...? No idea? but who knows see if he will cover a Stealership inspection? Sounds like it comes from the engine compartment but not sure. No idiot lights other than low tire pressure. (bearing in something maybe?)

This is the driveshaft clunk, NORMAL or so toyota says... search driveshaft clunk Is any of this normal for the 07's or did I just get screwed? Other than these two issues...the truck runs nice. Experienced something similar in a 2005 Tacoma PreRunner 4x4 I used to drive for work. Random screeching sound and random feel of a downshift. The downshift feel was also noticed when idling at a stop and both where most common after shifting into reverse, but prior to releasing the brake (so in gear, but stopped).

After much searching, we (me, guys in the company's shop, and also techs at Fred Haas Toyota Country (Houston)) figured out that there was a leak in the intake system that would open up when the engine's torque on the frame would cause a small gap to appear where the intake duct meets the frame. The engine-on-frame torque would be maximized when stopped, as the driveshaft wouldn't be turning. The V6 and V8 4Runners both use a similar system where the duct enters from a round hole in the frame near the front of the passenger side engine bay. It was at this specific location that the gap would appear. The screeching, we concluded, was due to the small gap essentially creating a whistle. The downshift feel, we concluded, was due to the fluctuation in airflow to the engine caused by the gap.

Although you have a K&N CAI installed, it may be possible that something similar is occurring. I would check the system and ensure that all hose clamps are tight as possible and check the mounting points.

Hope it helps!
