New to Offroading, need tips please!

I'm very new to this Offroading stuff and to my 99 3rd Gen 4runner. I have 2h, 4h and 4lo in my sticks. Also have permanent rear block differential.

Any info on how to use all this features, wich ones are used to any particular offroad situation? Also would like to know the purpose of the "2" and "L" on my automatic stick and the use of the ECT button?

...and to expand a little on the lovely pics,

2H - Use this on normal paved roads. For 'everyday' use.
4H - Use this when not on paved roads when you feel that more traction and stability are needed, but you feel you can drive at 'normal' speeds. Can be used on paved roads if in snowy or icy conditions.
4L - Use this when you are offroad and you have to drive slower through rough terrain. This will give you more engine torque for climbing and descending steep hills.

The 2 and L are similar to 2nd and 1st gear in a manual transmission. When you are in L, the auto will not shift out of 1st gear. When you are in 2, it can shift from 1st to 2nd only and not into 3rd or overdrive.
ECT is used for a little more power. This will let the transmission rev higher before shifting to the next gear when accelerating hard.

You say you have a permanent locked rear diff? How do you know that? This is very unusual.
