New to site, new to 4runners, and a new owner need tips

Hey guys, just bought a 1987 Toyota 4runner w/ 218k miles and is all stock. Guy i bought it from put a new head gasket set, timing chain, front main seal, and a new water pump on it. He said when he bought it it had a blown head gasket. Drove like a champ and has only minor surface rust. Body seems pretty straight main problems seem to be cosmetics such as paint and small dent on front bumper. If it weren't for the things i hear about the 22re engine and the reliability of 4runners i wouldn't of considered something with 218k miles/ a previous blown head gasket. But i hear these 22re engines and insane and can always be rebuilt fairly simple. Did I get ripped off at 3.5k? (I live in the Bay Area )

Well, really you are the only one who can answer that question.

If you feel like you got what you wanted for your money, then no.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $3500 for a 28 year old vehicle with 218 grand on it, but that's just me.

The truth is that old Toyotas have become quite collectible. Particularly if yours hasn't been messed with, with no excess rust and all the electrical bits are working you could likely sell it for just about what you paid.

Now, if it was hacked up, rusty, had a redneck lift and a gutted interior, then I would say yes, you got ripped off. But assuming yours is in nice condition with a reasonably intact interior and exterior, that's probably a decent price, especially for California where things like that are more expensive anyway.

Thanks for the replies, i think I'm pretty happy with it then. Definitely needs some work but it should be fun!

Seems like a bit more than it should but not to far off if its in decent condition
