New to T4R, kind of...

I'm returning to the forum after taking a short 4Runner hiatus, I used to own an 88 SR5 w/ 3VZ and quite honestly I don't even remember my old username hence the new account. I recently picked up a new toy, and I had remembered what a helpful community this was before, so thought I'd sign back up.

My new toy is an 87' SR5 22RE 5spd. w/sunroof The car has 185,000kms original on it. The thing looks like it's been sitting in a garage somewhere for the past 10 years or so.

The interior looks good, I don't think the top has ever been off, and the tailgate doesn't even look like it has been opened much. In fact I don't think the truck has been off-road before. The thing is a real time capsule, nothing original is missing, except maybe the covers for the back seat hinges, the interior is 100% complete otherwise I found the manual and the tools in the back, the jack looks untouched. It has the original stereo which also works really well, it even has the original floor mats

The chassis looks alright, there's some rust nothing major, all the body mounts are solid, spare tire is there and so is the e-brake, body is near mint and has very little rust. There are definitely a few things i will need to address such as the small leak at the bottom corner of the PS windshield, both door window seals are shot, rear window doesn't go up down and the sunroof is cracked, still the cleanest un-restored Runner I have seen to date.

I'm pretty excited to be back in a Runner, just thought I'd share some pics.

my cool car phone antenna, correct to period, old skool, I dig.imp:

the L-Trims/canopy window seals look pretty good.

my bad passenger window seal, are these still available anywhere?

the wheels are nice, missing a few lug caps, tiny bit of rust, no big deal, would these have come with this truck originally?

spare tire is still there.

So this is a 3-rib diff. what gearing is that again?, and if I remember correctly is it not better to use the 3VZE diff. if I want larger tires?

yes!, my e-brake works flawlessly, at least one of my Toys has a good e-brake.

the interior looks 99% complete, no dash cracks, little wear on pedal pads, window regulators go up and down smoothly.

I've got to figure out what's wrong with the back window, it doesn't work at all, but I haven't checked all the stupid fail safes, but it doesn't work in or out thus far.

the bottle jack looks like it has never been removed.

I found a tool pouch, tools, some bulbs a side mirror, owners manual, and some misc parts in the other side, is the pouch original?

everything under the carpet in this thing is mint, looks brand new under there! all the tie down hoops are rust free and move easily.

can you post some more pictures ? specifically I would like to see a photo of the light bulb inside of the glovebox and also a detailed photo of the cigarrette lighter..Thanks :infidel:

Congratulations. That's probably the cleanest 1st Gen in Canada. I wonder where the front valence went. The tool roll looks original. I'd forgotten all about cell antennas! :nerd:

thanks man, it's definitely the cleanest non-rebuilt 2st gen I've ever seen, I found a little rust hole under the bake booster and there's a tiny bit in the wheel arches. I had to replace the front calipers, I probably could have rebuilt them but it was cheap for the Cardone reman's, I have a question though, can anyone tell me whether the anchor pins that go through the top of the brake pads need to be greased?, I know the back and sides of the pads do. TIA

I'm not positive, but I think you can get the window weather stripping from Toyota dealers still. Your rims are the stock steel, SR5 version. And that doesn't look like the origonal bag for jack tools, all of the ones I have seen are green with Toyota printed in white.
