Ok so here's my story. I grew up on fast cars and 4wheeling with my brother. My first car was an 87 Monte Carlo SS my parents loaned me while i was 16 and indecisive about what i wanted. It was cool for 6 months, but i wanted change. They then allowed me to drive their 93 Trans AM. Again cool at 16 but not for me. I finally made my decision on a 91 Mitsubishi 3000GT. $5000 later it had a CAI, long tube headers, rims and a body kit. I loved that car till the motor slung a rod at 170xxx. Back to the trans am till i found a new car. After tons of research on everything domestic Japanese and German i decided on an Estoril Blue 97 BMW M3. Black rims, Factory exhaust with no cats, Afe CAI, LTW flywheel, bushings, etc etc. I'm Loving every second of this car. Growing up everyone in my family always had multiple cars.
My dad's cousin had an 81 BMW and an 86 BMW that he told my dad he would trade for some garage doors. I was all over. Got the cars home (by wrecker), cleaned them up. The 86 needed a little electrical tape on the intake tube and spark plugs to see if it would run. Got it going with open manifolds. My First test drive it only had 1st 5th and reverse. So that one went on the back burner. I started on the 81 which was a one owner with only 810000 miles on the clock. Im thinking this is where the money is. With no key and the price to get a key out the roof i figured what the hell hot wire it. It fires up no problem. till i noticed the pouring water from the engine. So i replaced a freeze plug. Still a water leak. While tracking the water leak down there's all of a sudden a huge burst of white smoke, head gasket.
Then the Big snow of Ga which doesnt happen im stuck at home for a week with no way to work for my m3 being buried in the snow up to the muffler. I sold the 3000 with no motor for $1000 and I decided to sell the two junk BMW's to good loving homes with people who could afford fixing the major issues, considering my job cut my hours which means cut pay. I sell both of them for $600, and started emailing people about their Bronco's. Finally talked to a guy a month later selling it for $1600. Went up to his place did a little haggling and ended up getting the truck for $600 with a small lift and some 33x12.50s. determined to have a weekend off road toy. A year from here we found out that we were having a baby. So i post the bronco for sell hoping to get something with 4 doors without sacrificing the M3.
I get up one morning come out get in my car take off down the road and hear this terrible noise. I stop at a stop sign to see that someone backed into my car in the drive way(roommate :nono
I get a text 3 hours later apologizing. Get an estimate from work for $1600. The next day i get an offer on my bronco for $2000(which is $1400 more than i paid) I had to inform them of the accident and that i couldnt sell the truck. They told me to keep in touch. 4 months later after arguing and procrastinating and insurance bull crap my car was done and i called the people back who originally wanted to buy the bronco. They came down from Washington state(truck drivers) two days later with cash in had. After a long debate with myself and test drives between a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a Nissan Xterra and a 4runner. I made my decision on a 4Runner.
So i have $2000 searching for a 3rd gen. I thought it would be impossible. I found a 97 ltd 4wd on craigslist for that price exactly but the seller never would anwer the phone. After 3 days of calling he finally answered. He told me to come take a look at it. He warned me it was rough. I thought how bad could it be. I get there Its got 4 flat tires, its been side swiped from the passenger side, a busted blinker on the driver side along with a caved in fender, disgustingly nasty interior, and to top it off he says it has motor issues. I thought i guess its what i get for convincing him to not clean it and allowing me to come look the next day. I go back the day after that with my brother in-law on christmas eve for a second opinion. He also saw the good in the car. So i ended up getting it for $1850. Towed home for $50. My brother in-law had some used tires with decent tread on them the perfect size. So i got them mounted and balanced. Spent a whole day cleaning the interior. Charged the battery for an hour. The truck fired right up. Drove it to work on monday. Passed emission, got my tag, removed the running boards, painted the cladding with plastidip, working on the wheels currently, had a baby and so far ive put 4000 miles on the car in the since then.
I Love this things next comes the lift and tires so if anyone in ga wants to help me out with this that'd be awesome lol. but the modding will continue slowly but surely. Im searching for some LC coils and wheel spacers. Money is tight but im gonna get this thing going if only the prices of tires would come down.
