New to T4R.org

Hi,

My name is Brian and i'm new to Toyota-4Runner.org. I'm looking forward to being part of the community. With that being said, i'm looking for a first gen 4Runner as a beater/offroader/winter vehicle. I found one with 244K on the engine and trans, it's an 86' and everything works. Minimal rust. How reliable are these engines? I'm not too unfamiliar to Toyota SUV's as my mom has an 04' Highlander and i had an 01' Rav4.

Can't wait until i'm an owner.

Well, as for the truck, you can beat that thing up all you want, it'll last you.

As far as for the 1st gen engine though, talk to one of the guys that abuses the crap outa theirs on the rocks.

Thanks man that's reassuring to hear that these will last. I have a few concerns with it though. If i put some bigger tires on it, say 29"'s would that be too much strain on that little 2.4L?

Don't worry, same here to mine (paint, etc.)

Thanks for the name i appreciate it, i guess there aren't a lot of guys on here that have the 1st gen. I'm a full time student but only 3 weeks left until i pick up this bad boy! Then the fun begins, i'm gonna clear up all the rust, flush all the fluids, change the plugs, put a new head gasket on if it needs it and get her running good before i start playing around with it. Then i'll worry about paint.

Yeah i'm pretty excited! I love the fact that the fiberglass top comes off, best idea ever! I'm sure ill be posting on here a lot looking for advice/help with it.

The ones with the removable top all have that roll bar correct?
