New to the board...Speaker Question.

I have found out that I can go as big as 6 3/4 in the front doors via component system in my 2002 4Ruunner SR5 Sport...but Crutchfield doesnt have a clue as to what size the rear door speakers are...at 6 1/2 they said I would have to modify the door and cut some metal...I dont want to do that...I just want to put the biggest size speaker that will "fit" in the factory setting. Any help on this would be great. Thank you for your assistance.

If I were you, I'd focus on quality, not just size.

I had my stereo shop put some Focal 6.5" components in all 4 doors....Wow! Sounds absolutely SICK!

You can indead put 6.75" speakers at all four door locations. I likewise saw a lot of misleading figures and posts prior to doing the upgrade myself.

The rear stock speaker baffles can easily accomodate 6.75" speakers.

The Front 6x9 positions can accomodate 6.75" too but will require slight modification to the plastic baffle.

No metal cutting required anywhere! And definitely don't go for 5 1/4" speakers.

As someone already here has said...focus on the quality of components particularly up front. The rear is less critical so you can save some money there. That said, go for the inifities I went for. Dropped right in and they are oversized 6.5" with cones that are equivilent to 6.75" speakers.

Go for 6.5" speakers all around.

his is an 02... I guarentee 6x9 will not fit in the front without MAJOR modification.

It sounds to me like the original poster is a DIY kinda guy, so a shop isn't going to be doing his install. A 5 1/4 is the standard size in the back...which is going to be your easiest bet for getting them in there. You can make plates to accomodate a 6 1/2 or simply cut your door, but that is if you are up to it.
