Hi

I just joined last week. Been busy hunting for a V E R Y specific model/setup and almost gave up. One day I would be interested to find out how many(few) Sport Edition V8 2 WD were made? I just picked up a pretty clean 04 for 12K with 72K on it in black.

It's to fill a need not a want and I am looking for tips on mod's things to look out for and any info on the V8 or tranny for the year 04.

As for the V8 tranny, Toyota claims the fluid does not need servicing, however some owners have reported better performance if changed. Even on lower (sub 100k) mile trucks.

How about those tips and suggestions if anyone has knowlege of the V8 from an 04 SE 4X2 V8??

Any suggestions? Is it my imagination or are the wheel flares on the 04 Se held in with 2 sided tape?!?

No, the choice of vehicle won't get you banned. We have members here who were former 4Runner owners and we welcome their stay. The other "Even Steven" was warned repeatedly for forum rule violations. I won't get into details.

The 2UZ-FE, 4.7 V8, is a very reliable engine and it's very easy on oil. Do a search for member Koz. He has an Amsoil bypass filter and with synthetic, his OCI are 20 or 25k.

The flares are held in by screws from underneath where the wheel arches are.

It also depends on the region you are in and what configurations they are allocated. I can't get a 2WD 4Runner in the NY/metro area but if you go to the SE, you could find 2WD.

The cladding is held on with clips. They press in to stamped holes in the body panels. The top edges do have a thin layer of double sided foam tape.

Earlier this summer, Elk Grove Toyota had at least three new '08 Sport Edition 2wd V8's on the lot. Told me I didn't need 4wd in sunny California.
