I dont spend a lot of time on forums much, but it seems like the place to come for some help.

I've got a 96 4runner limited 3.4l 4x4 blah blah... I just finished replacing the drivers side head gasket. i didnt change them both because i needed the truck back up in a hurry. I put everything back together and the truck wont start.

1. put the timing belt back on with all 3 timing marks lined up, rotated the motor, and was off by a tooth, so retimed it, now everything lines up perfectly.

2. when i got everything back together, and hooked the battery up, it freaked out the alarm, and initially the truck wouldnt turn over. after fidling with it for a while, i think i reset the alarm, and the truck cranked.

3. The motor turns over, and is getting fuel and spark, but only sputters occasionally, and never starts. the plug wires are not crossed, i triple checked.

4. No codes.

Could the timing be 180 degrees out? i know the crank spins twice for the cams one turn, but on a computer controlled ignition system, as long as the timing marks are all lined up initially, it seems like it ought to be right. i cant get my head around how it could be off, but its so freakin cold my brain not be firing right.

I'm going to go do a compression check, and i guess if none of the cyls have compression i'll re-reset the timing.
