First thread. I'm original owner of a 1998 4R. Still clean with 155k miles. Only mods are 265 Nokians, K&N air, stereo and Manik step bars. Live in western MI. Do a lot of 2-tracks in national forest and drives to the airport. Fits me like a glove and I can't think of another SUV I'd rather own (even newer generation 4R) so I've decided to keep it.

I want to pump it up some and looking for ideas. Thinking of 2 inch lift maybe and more aggressive tires/wheels. Needs a new muffler so interested in exhaust options too. Still need to drive it on road so I don't want to go too radical. Any ideas?

Welcome.

There's lots of good ideas on here. Just check out the 3rd gen section.

No need to try to sell you on T4R's by the sounds of it, I think you've made a wise choice.

Welcome to the site. Check out the sticky on 3rd gen lift information in the 3rd gen section. That will answer most of your questions about lifts. Post some pics of your 4runner too.

new to this site & new to 4runners

I am new to this site also. Was on Toyota Tacoma site before, but have since sold my Lifted 03 Tacoma to buy a new 2010 4runner trail addition. I love my choice. My Tacoma was sweet all decked out in black, but my new toy is also sweet in black. Along with selling my 03, I also sold my 1990 toyota single cab pick-up 4x4 to only replace it with a 1990 4runner. Love the runners!!!!!

Thanks for the welcome folks!

I changed my mind. I've decided to sell my beloved '98 4R and my '91 Toyota truck to buy a new or used post-2009 Taco. I'll put the goodies into that instead.

I'll post a photo of my 4R this spring, then move on to the Taco forums.

Already have a line of potential 4R buyers waiting for me to announce that it's ready to go. I'll miss it. If I had a bigger garage I'd keep it.
