New to thread and new 4Runner owner

As the title to the thread suggests, just purchased a 2005 SR5 last week. At the moment it is completely stock but is going to change. First I am going to lift with ome front and rear coils and shocks, trying to decide what tires to go with; either bfg atko, or nitro terra grappler 265/70/17, remove running boards and put on rails, replace front end with shockworks bumper, and eventually install a rear tire mount.

Happy I found this thread to gain motivation and good information. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome and sweet ride! Originally I was looking for a silver runner too but I couldn't pass up on mine. I have the BFG's and love them, can't go wrong in my opinion. Your plans sound sweet, throw up some picz when you do pull the trigger on the mods!
 
Very nice ride. Before I started investing a lot of cash in it, I would think about finding a safe place to park it.:cheers:
 
Well the mods have begun. Put on Nitto Terra Grapplers 265/70/17s. Took off running boards, and put the Thule rack from my old gmc Yukon on. Ordering the ome lift kit today and buddy is making some cutome sliders for it. Post updated pics soon.
 
That is a great looking truck! A silver 2005 is the best 4Runner ever made! Welcome to the board.
 
Mod photo update. New tires and removed running boards. Can't believe how much better the T4R looks with out the running boards.

Thanks Chaz. I just installed the Nitto's two days ago. So far they have been a smooth ride. Pretty quite on the road. Haven't taken them off-road yet. Think it will look even better once I do the lift.
 
did you decide on what kind/brand lift your gonna do? 2/1, ? the 265/70 might not fill up the wheel wells enough with the 3/2 or ultimate 3. just a thought. keep us updated.
 
well the 265/70 wont fill it up but if u get the OME they sure will be able to flex good. i think it should look fine with a 3inch kit. i ordered a toytec 3inch spacers for my 03 sr5 2wd. just go look at the 4th gen lift tire central thread and u will find t4r's with 265/70 with 3 inch lifts and they look sweet! and welcome aboard!! :)

You must be a giant (6-footer) lol. I'm only 5'7" and i still need my running boards to hop in especially when it snows. haha
 
running boards are pointless im 5'9 and dont see why u would need them even if your truck was lifted 3 inches
 
I got the Limited and the running boards light up when doors open/close or alarm is on/off. It could be used for looks. haha.. I also use them if i want to reach something on top of the roof (i.e. washing). To include if some midget needs to get in the ride too (like those valet parking boys at the dealership). :lmao:

You nailed it, I am 6'4". Always had running boards on my yukon and never thought about taking them off. Got the 4runner and took them off that week. Just think it looks better. I will keep it like that till I get the rails made. Funny to watch my two year old daughter climb in.
