I've been offroading for about 15 years, mostly in Jeeps. Just sold my 97 Wrangler (1tons, 40s, etc.) and want something bigger for my family. I am looking to buy a 3rd gen 4Runner for my trail/camping rig. My plan is to SAS the 4Runner, 35s, lockers, sliders, bumpers, that's about it.
I've been searching craigslist and the forums for a good candidate to start with. I want something clean and unmolested, unless it was done right.
Can you guys please explain to me how do people come up with prices for their rigs for sale? I looked on kbb and edmunds to get a baseline and 2000 SR5 4WD in Very Good condition prices out at about $4000. Problem is, there are no 4Runners available at that price. I looked at a rough 99 yesterday and the guy wanted $5500. $7000 seems to be a median price. I understand supply/demand and I'm willing to pay a fair price for a good 4Runner, just wanted to make sure I'm not overpaying.
