New Tundra does 0-60 in 6.3 sec!!!!

Did some more reading. The C-section (if it's tall) is good enough to withstand vertical loads...thus, you can get away with it in the rear bed. The problem with C-section frame is that it is bad with twisting forces (e.g. off-roading) and side load (e.g. accident). This is why the big HD trucks can get away with using tall C-section frame in the rear 1/2 of the vehicle...easy and cheaper to produce and does the job good enough for the average truck owner...BUT it is NOT necessarily the best solution in terms of frame strength and durability.

This is why the front of the Tundra (and all trucks on the market today) are boxed for crash testing strength and cabin stability while the rear bed is C-section because the bed mainly deals with vertical load.

Therefore, having C-section frame in the rear has NOTHING to do with ride comfort or handling. It is meeting with the needs of most truck owners.

Have you seen the frame on the F150?? It's frame is quite massive (on par with Tundra) and is fully boxed front to rear. In addition, some of it's crossmembers are welded thru-&-thru both sides of the frame.
My daily driver during the week is a 2007 F-150. I drive it a minimum of 100 miles per day and it currently has 4800 miles all put on it by me. The Tundra's handling and ride is night and day compared to the F-150. The Tundra feels more soild around town and at speed, as well as hitting the large potholes that have wreaked havoc around here due to the melting of 3 feet of snowpack. When the F-150 hits these large pot holes the whole cab and bed shake and shimmy, the "suicide" extended cab doors flex and shake and the truck feels like its the sum of its parts instead of a solid unit, like the Tundra. However, Ford did a decent job of implementing the "quiet steel" concept. There aren't too many noticible squeaks or rattles coming from the truck over rough surfaces, but I didn't notice ANY in my two lengthy test drives in the Tundra.

If the F150's fully boxed frame is better than the Tundra's then having a fully boxed frame is, in my opinion, bad.

High 14s in the 1/4 mile too which is crazy right off the showroom floor.
They are a hit around here as I've seen 8 different ones in the last 10 days;they look really sharp in dark red.

About to be one more in the area in Slate Metallic :awais: :biggrin2:

I just got a '97 limited and when I'm out of college I'm going to be selling it and getting a Tundra around 2012 or so.
