Just got a '97 4Runner SR5 and I stumbled upon this forum. Just wanted to introduce myself and post my 4Runner, both right when I bought it and what I've done in the week I've had it. Any suggestions on what to do next are welcome.

Here's a small list of what I've done since I've had it:

-CB Radio (Mounted on ceiling)
-4 ft. Radio Shack CB Antenna
-PA attachment (Mounted in engine compartment)
- KC 100 Watt Lamp Pair (Mounted, not installed) with Thule Lamp Covers

Future Prospects:
-Safari Snorkel System
-BFG A/T 35" with Black AR wheels
-3 in. suspension lift
-Rain guards for my windows..hahaha gotta save up for that one
-Gibson exhaust system

In addition to the suggestions, if anyone had a suggestion as to the best entry point for the lamp wiring I'd appreciate it. I've been hesitating to install them until I get some other opinions. Take it easy.

well first things first, i would take off that big red ROOR on the front, might give you more grief than you want. secondly, if you want to go up to a 35" wheel, your going to need ALOT more than just a 3" suspension lift

such as

2.5" suspension lift
1" body lift
major wheel well trimming
dual transfer cases ($$$$)
new gears ($$$$)

rain guards are the best mod ive done to my truck, i love them. the snorkel gets alot of looks and has saved my engine a few times... good luck with your mods

after seeing you arent 4wd, you might want to add that to your list, possibly doing a SAS could be in your cards (i say that because with the amount of work you would need to do to install 4wd into a 2wd runner, you might as well just go with a live axle) forgive me if im mistaken and you are 4wd

Yeah it's a 4wd. And the 35's are just hopes and dreams, I'm sticking down-to-earth in the meantime. Small time improvements and such

Glad to see you have the knowledge of Roor. And my car no longer harbors illegal substances, so I justify my proud ownership without any repurcussions. You gotta admit, it's a thing of beauty.

Also, I went to Pep Boys to pick some VentShades up and they only had the ones that stick to the outside of the car. You know where I can find the ones that wedge up inside the window trac?

talk to jason burtman of burtman industries.

as was said by runnerup, 35's are tough for our trucks.

the gearing alone is a reason not to go so high.

im upping my tire size to 33's (305/70/16's) in 2 weeks.. to do that im installing 3" OME lift springs, daystar spacers up front and a 1" BL.

badass lookin runner and somebody not too far away.

if you look at a runner with 33s youll see why they look really good and 35s are over doing it. 35s are on 3rd gens but a lot rarer to find.

Any idea as to where I should go for a rim upgrade, 99-up. A friend said a junkyard but i'm looking for more options.

Will do. I'm really trying to figure out the best possible entry point from my roof rack for the light wiring. I called Southern Off-Road Specialists and they wanted to charge me $240 (lights only cost me 180) and I just asked if they could tell me the best point to drill on the roof. They said I could bring it in and they could inspect it for a "nominal fee". In conclusion, screw them, free suggestions anyone?

I would think you you dont drill maybe run it under the roof rack track and ran the rest of the wiring through the back door and side paneling.
Seems a bit much but I am just scared of drilling

Possible but I'm trying to avoid exposed wires as much as possible. I've already got the PA/Power/Ground Wires Running on my ceiling as well as CB antenna running on the other side (sheer laziness to blame). If it turns out to be too big of a pain than I'm going to just take it to this local body dude who's got a decent rep

HAHA look what I just stumbled upon when searching for Gibson exhaust. I like his very short list of future mods. Didn't turn out so short.

Don't settle for anything less than the Autoventshades, IN CHANNEL ventvisors. They are a very simple and clean install.

So far, how are you liking your tires?

Hahahaha nice James

Yeah this is a nice little blast from the past. Those were the days, I had no idea what I was in store for......so innocent and ignorant haha
