Hello everyone,
I've signed up here a while ago, but this is my first post.

I've been a GEN3 T4R owner since 2005, a black 1997 4Runner SR5 V6, with 5 speed manual. I've always wanted one since the Gen2, and finally pulled trigger on buying it right after the divorce, because my ex kept both DDs, (Wrangler and Maxima) but I kept my toy JZA80 TT Supra.

As a rookie DYI'er, I've gotten a lot of help from posts on this site... oil change, fixing the stuck rear tail gate handle, spark plug change, power steering fluid change etc)

My 4Runner became our family car after I remarried and now with 3 kids.
With our family now needing 3rd row, (as kids are getting bigger) and with 180,000 miles on the clock, I'm faced with a decision... do I sell it and get what my wife wants? (used Lexus GX 470 with third row... or Honda Odyssey... or ???) Do we keep it, and do some serious modifications to it?
Right now, we have no idea, but space at home is limited and I have to get rid of something before getting a new car... but the 4Runner has been running flawlessly and I'd hate to get rid of it.

So here I am, aimlessly wondering around this site for any ideas (or signs?) of what I should do...

I love my truck, but looks like the below is the only picture I have on my PC. (I feel bad because I have million pics of my 'toys', Supra and 1986 Mustang)
It's going to be really hard to see this truck go, if we decide to get rid of it, because my family basically born in it and grew with it.

These are my 'toys'... again, one of these guys must go, if I keep the truck and add a newer family car.

And why 'lightning mcqueen'?
I took the Supra to the local Mustang show once, (Mustang was in pieces) one of the guys thought the Supra looked like lighting mcqueen... called me by that name and it stuck. So all the forums I belong to, I use that name.

Welcome to T4R.ORG. Lose the Mustang, they're a dime a dozen. The Supra however is rare and probably worth 5x the 'stang. Keep ur 4RNR for the DD, get the wife her LX470. Besides you said the RNR is running flawlessly! Sounds like a keeper. Just my .02 :car:

Thanks!!

Yeah, I'm with you on the 'lose the Mustang' thing. The Mustang is actually lot more fun to drive than the Supra and topless thing makes it kid's favorite, but Stock Supra is harder to find.

Not to revive a thread that's over a year old but...

I sold the mustang as I've mentioned over a year ago, and I got my wife a minty 08 GX470 Sport, about 50k when I got it few months back.

Now, I'm faced with another decision...

I have two DDs, a gen2 Lexus GS430 (2001) and the 97 4Runner.
I'm now working from home, so I don't need two DDs, let alone just one.

With my wife having a GX, I really don't need the 4Runner. Again, it's been a great truck, I just had the timing belt/water pump/bearings/drive belts changed. It just needs a few more regular maintenance are due before the winter. (tires, maybe brakes, etc)

If I was to sell it, the KBB shows that it should sell for 3000$ to 3700$.

It's a 1997, SR5 4x4, 197k miles, 5 Speed manual with power moonroof. The truck isn't perfect, but it runs beautifully, AC blows cold, etc.

Is the KBB pretty accurate of what I should sell the truck for?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!
