Newb From S.E. Texas

hey guys....great site!! A little back story.....

When I was a teenager, my uncle had a 1989 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup. I fell in love w/ the thing and drove it during the summer when I'd visit. I then somewhere along the way decided I liked the 4Runner even more. Well...as luck would have it, I just got home from Iraq/Afghanistan (gov. contractor, ex-military) and went up to my family's property to go hunting and spend a week. It had been raining and I got my 3/4ton Ford stuck....for the last time. (This wasn't the first time). I told myself right then and there I was gonna go home and find me a 4Runner online somewhere. I go to craigslist and there she is...a 1992 SR5 4x4....for 1200.00!! Add said "has slight engine knock". I go and look at the truck...it's in GREAT shape. The interior looks like it rolled out of the factory yesterday. I figure, if I've gotta drop a fresh motor in it at some point, I'm still ahead of the game. I suspect the "knocking" is a bad knock sensor as it only makes the sound at certain RPMs at certain throttle positions.

I've since dumped a couple of hundred bucks into her....new stereo head unit, two new speakers to replace the old dry rotted ones in the rear, new shocks all the way around, new plugs, new air filter, oil change, seafoam, etc. etc. etc.

Anyway....here she is...my $1200.00 rig....

Yeah, it is 2 hours for me from DFW, but I figure from SE Texas, depending on where, max 4 hours. Spend the whole weekend and it is worth it. The Toyota Jamboree is in January, and then our DFW club is sponsoring the Megarun in March. Both are well worth attending.

Hey cool deal....I might just do that. I've got an old buddy from Gilmer that I've lost touch with, and have an address....might drop in on him!

Also.....Gilmer -vs- Cuero this week in the HS Football playoffs. Should be game of the year material!! (yeah..I'm a HS Football junkie!!)

Yeah, my boss has been talking about that game all week. His family is from Cuero.

Kinda off subject...but the Gilmer/Cuero game was AWESOME. Time ran out on Cuero...they were on Gilmer's 5yd line trying to get it in for the win.

10-4, member of DFW-TX4WD. They are an awesome group to wheel with. The 2010 Megarun is already turning out to be our biggest yet. Try to make it if you can and look me up. I will be doing some of the safety inspections, rock garden scoring, and tailgunner for some of the trails. Regarding Gilmer vs. Cuero, I am a HS football junkie as well. My hometown, Wills Point, got knocked out in the first round, ...., Gilmer has been rated number one all year long, and I guess we know why.

Yup...both of those teams have D1 talent on them. That RB for Cuero is only a SOPH! He had 293yds and 4TDs against Sealy. In district play against Gonzales...he had 292 and 4TDs at HALFTIME! I think Gilmer -vs- Abilene Wylie is gonna be on FSNSW at 6pm today. I'm on a little football web board that covers 3A ball....3adownlow.com. Good stuff over there. We (Needville) got knocked out in the 1st round as well by Sealy. We played em tough, but came up just short.
