NEWB: NAV not available in SR5's???

Hey everyone

I'm new here (obviously)...and actually do not even own a 4Runner (yet!)...still pushing around this P.O.S. jeep grand cherokee...


Anyway...I went to a Toyo dealer today, and test drove. Basically I'm getting a 4x4 v8 SR5 with sunroof (Option B pkg).

The dealership is telling me that they cannot put in JBL NAV system into an SR5 (or Sport, for that matter) -- that they are only in the Limiteds...and that they'd have to install with an expensive after-market nav, one that does not even include bluetooth, backup cam, 4-cd changer, etc.

Is that right? Why on toyota.com's eBrochure does it even say that the JBL NAV is (O)ptional in all trims???

Yea, don't know why they would need to lie about something like that. Wouldn't it just be benefiting THEM by me buying an option like NAV???

Actually they were telling you 1/2 lie and 1/2 truth. It depends on how the region orders them from the factory. If the region does not order the SR5 with Nav's, then the Dealer's statement is true in his perspective cuz that dealer plus the neighboring 5 states probably doesn't have them either.
Anyways, If I were you, I'd go with an aftermarket Nav with Bluetooth. Check out the "Audio/Electrical" topic in this forum. There's some really cool stuff there.

The JBL NAV IS available on SR5's and Sports as an option, BUT most of them do not have it because the dealer does not order them that way. If you're really set on getting an SR5 with the factory NAV, you'll have to special order one (which can be a pain depending on your dealer).

Personally I have never heard of an SR5 or Sport that came with the OEM Nav. You can go to http://www.toyota.com/ and search your area inventory by "building" a 4Runner that you would like, but I doubt you will find any non-limiteds w/ Nav.

I believe you guys are correct. Well, here is what the dealer just sent me:

It is an option. If you'd like me to order you a car, it could take 3 months, but I could probably get you one with the nav. Toyota doesn't regularly configure any 4Runner other than the V8 Limited with facotry Navigation. I just ran a dealer locate, and there aren't any SR5 4Runners in stock anywhere in the country with nav.

So I understand how it can be confusing, but to avoid that explanation everytime I generally say they don't build the SR5's with nav. ;-) Thanks for understanding.

I suppose, for now, I can do without the NAV and just have an after-market one put in, like Jaebster suggested. (Although I don't know a lick about installing this kind of stuff, so i'd probably have it done for me). Or i could just custom order a 4Runner, which is unlikely...

hey iLLWiLL, base on your location 916, i assume you are in sacramento? if so, which dealership you talked to? a best friend of mine works at local toyota dealership and i picked mine up from him, let me know if you are running into any difficulty to deal with dealership, i can have my friend take care you good.

Better yet, save yourself a pile of money and get a portable navigation system. For $600 or so you can get a nice unit from Garmin, TomTom, AIO, etc. You can use the search function to see the opinions of other members.

i went to Folsom Lake Toyota today. The two internet sales guys I worked with were nice and weren't pressuring me. (Although they're are trying to get to buy a Sport edition, which i do not want) No problems with the guys, just a "misunderstanding" if you want to call it regarding the NAV...

i COULD...but i'd rather not go that route, since i'll already have my ipod dangling around the dash too. Plus, it's not just the NAV i'm wanting -- i want the whole NV package (the nav, backup cam, bluetooth, the 8 JBL speakers, etc)

If you're spending anywhere near $35K on a SR5, run from that dealership. You can do MUCH better.

well, they always can allocate a car for you, mine was allocate from vallejo dealership when it was still floating on the pacific ocean. elk grove have pretty good relationship with all other dealership and should not be a problem to allocate you the right car you want. i talked to my buddy yesterday and actually he said you can give him a call instead of email, he will work something out with you. due to personal info involve, i can't put his number here but you can go to elkgrovetoyota.com and find "chris chao", he's a very nice guy to deal with. just mention to him that his buddy Eric, tell you to give him a call and he will take care you.

good to hear that you'd contacted him already! well, about the deal, i'm not too sure, but definitely i'll talk to him later and see how he can do the deal. he is a very nice guy, i'm sure he will have something work out with you. by the way, what is your name?
