Newb question about brush guard, and Running boards/nerf bars

Hey all,

THis is my first post and Im about to buy a 06 4Runner 4x4 v6 Sport Ed. :awais:

I want to get a chrome brush guard, and Running boards/nerf bars.

Do you think that the Toyota parts are overpriced and that I should go aftermarket? If so, what brand. Thanks

Or are the Toyota parts the best out there?

Brush guards depends on what style you want. A group buy is in progress for a Strona bullbar. Whatever you do, stay away from the Toyota sport bumper trim. I don't know if it's offered for the '06 models, but it's just all plastic--it will not save your bumper in any type of impact and I think it's $400 or so.

If you're set on getting the Sport Edition, it already comes with nerf bars/tube steps on the side. They are a darker grey color.

It all depends on your preference on Toyota's style for accessories. If it happens to be a style you're fond of, go for it. But expect to pay a little more. It depends on the accessory or mods you're planning on using before brands come to play. As an example, I went with Husky liners because I wanted a raised lip/edge to contain all the dirt and liquid in the liner. I didn't think Toyota's rubber mats would perform as well. For something like exhaust, Borla, Magnaflow, etc are good ones. But I'd probably stay away from a no-name brand at your local muffler shop.

Toyota accessories are expected to be better, because it comes from the same folks who designed and built the truck.
