Newb question...sorry. V6 or V8?

I'm in the market for a truck...starting to narrow it down to the Pathfinder, Pilot and 4Runner.

Just a quick question...any pro's/cons to the V6 vs the V8?

I don't *need* to tow anything *yet* but I'm not scared of the extra cylinders.

My S4 has a v8 and I get extremely crappy gas mileage.

Are the limited 4runners full time 4wd like the GX?

Based on many members here, the v6 is more than adequate. You already have a s4 - neither the V6 or the V8 will perform like that.

I faced the same question last Month. Since I don't tow anything have a 82 Ford Bronco v8 4wd. gets 11 mpg on a really good day.

I bought a 2wd v6 and am very happy with it's performance. I really like v6s I have a 98 Nissan Maxima with a 3L v6 and it is a quick Auto. gets 15 mpg all the time in City and 24 mpg out on the highway.

I got a V6 and am more than happy with it. My dad has a V8 and gets 5-7 mpg less than me. Plus you can have 2wd, or just leave it in 4wd. If you tow get a V8.

Beaten to death subject, but if you need to tow something more than 3k lbs on a regular basis, get the V8. If not, get the V6 or V8. Personally, the V6 gets my vote.

Yeah, sorry guys. I figured it was a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something that I needed to know.

The v8's aren't full time awd are they? I missed that on the Toyota website.

I'm not looking for the performance of my S4, I'm just not afraid of getting 14mpg...like I am now.

Yes, the V8's are full time 4WD, which is my main deterrent from going with a V8. V6 is plenty powerful and has better MPG. Plus, the oil changes are much easier.

don't let the v6 fan boys sell you out. dare i say the v8 in the 4runner is smoother than the v8 is the s4. i've driven the s4 and yes it is a gas muncher. i bet if you got the 4run v8 you'll find yourself wanting to drive the s4 less. it's that smooth of a ride.

i get about 15-17mpg in my v8 limited 4wd but it doesn't require premium fuel. i use regular. it's super smooth and markedly torquier which makes it a superior option to the v6. drive both and make the final decision bud.

it's one thing if the v8 required premium gas since it is a lexus supporting engine as well. but it doesn't. both the v6 and 8 are fine on regular gas so the savings are nominal at best.

Interesting. I would have thought the v8 and full time awd would equal gas hog. The S4 takes premium, so it can be a little hit to the wallet, but again, it's not that big a deal.

I love the limited...but i also love the hood scoop. I wonder if people do hood trades? lol.

nope, it falls right in the middle of what it says so on the car's window sticker. 16mpg overall for me. it is my daily beater and the gas budget will be LESS than your small car super A4. it's not a full size SUV so that might be why it's more gas friendly than most people perceive given it is an SUV with a V8.

it's rare for a mid-size suv to have the v8. i have absolutely 0 regrets about going for teh v8 whereas if i went with the v6, i certainly would.

4runners are an awesome value. still rugged, but docile as well. again, drive both cars. id be interested to hear what you end up with. i like the limited because i like teh fully optioned interior. leather is a must for me. scoop looks a little too outdoorsy for my style, but it's certainly not a deal breaker.

Speaking of a fan boy, the Choi guy is the biggest one. As he's said in the other threads, the reason why the V8 is better than the V6 is because it has more power, is smoother and they use it in Lexus. Because apparently, that's the only thing that matters. Please take this guy's advice with a grain of salt. His lingo alone should bring a sense of caution to the advice he gives.

Also worthy of note is that the Sport has the XREAS suspension standard and the Limited has it as an option. I have heard good and bad things about it, so research up on it to see if you want that or not. It's all personaly preference. I really could care less about leather and the wood trim, so the Sport Package gets the nod for me.

BTW, Didn't even see your SN until now. I've been eyeing the Gotama's this year. I'm going to demo them this week and hopefully pick up a set. :bigok:

True, as a matter of fact wh have "closed" about 5 threads since they tend to get personal. It is a good subject, but when I see things like "jerk", "idiot", "dumb", etc. I will close the thread, but for right now I will leave it open.

My boss bought a 2006 2WD V8 one week before I bought my 2004 2WD V6 and we have some lively disscussions. :xnuts:

V8 or V6 Both are great engines both have their uses. People wanted choices this is why Toyota and other Mfgs. put up the money to give them all what they want.:

I believe it all to be about towing.

I strongly looked at the Pilot and 4runner V6's, but had to go with the 4Runner V8 due to pulling the boat.

I know that either 6 would have met all my daily needs, but I have to admit the Toyota V8 is VERY refined and smooth. All in all, no regrets here, I would go with the Limited again
