NewB saying hi and a shifter question

Hi All,

I recently picked up an '86 turbo and its gear shifter isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing.

1) When it's in park, it doesn't close the circuit to the ignition switch, so i have to push forward on the lever every time i have to start the engine.

2) the reverse lights don't work. I've never had an automatic before, and I see no semblance of a reverse light switch on the transmission.

If you don't mind showing me where i can find this reverse light switch, that'd be great.

Also, would you mind showing me a picture of your shift linkage right under the shift lever. That could give me a clue as to how badly my linkage is misaligned.:biggrin2:

IIRC, the B/U light switch is in the same module as the Neutral Safety switch.

Download an FSM, it has pics and a procedure to adjust the linkages.

Is the location of the Neutral Safety switch gonna vary from year to year? I know it's a stupid question, i just didn't want to jump to any conclusions and starting pulling stuff out.

I think mine's on the driver's side where my '88 FSM shows it on the passenger's side.

problem solved.

i used an '88 Supra NSS in place of my old one and every works great now.
