I have been lurking for a while and decided to step up. Lots of great info and a bunch of sharp guy's. I have an 87 SR5 and a few ????s. It's has full time hubs, Can these be changed to standard hubs by simply adding the hub. I have done this on 90s Fords before. The other ? I have is I was cleaning the thing out and took out the shift boots and noticed that the trans shifters were way fwd of the factory placement about 4 inches or so. What trans is in this thing? Thanks guys for the great Forum!!!

I don't think full time hubs (drive flanges) were an option in 87. It should have either manual or auto hubs.
As for the trans, you should have a G52 or 54 if you have a 22R, or a W56 if you have a 22RE. Check the bottom of the VIN plate, the trans and axle codes can be found there.

Thanks. They are the auto hubs. If working properly they should be fully disengaged while in 2 wheel and if so I most likely would gain no mileage from Manual hubs????

No mileage gain. Manual hubs are less likely to leave you stranded in 3 wheel drive at an inopportune time. Less machinery to fail.
