Well, probably should start by saying hello. Bill from Michigan here. New to Toyota, new to 4Runners, but I've been lurking here for some time as I shopped and waited for the right rig to show up in Michigan.
I've got a company car, so the new one is for me to occasionally tow the boat, go hunting or to make the Home Depot trips - and I hope to eventually have some off-road fun. I had $20K+ wrapped up in the Suburban I sold this winter and that was a waste to have sitting the garage making big payments while simultaneously finding creative ways to pay the college tuition of my oldest. I'm excited about its replacement.
Picked up Saturday for under $12k: '03 SR5 V6, 95k and the guy obviously took pretty darn good care of his baby. Seat covers since new. Very clean inside. Spent most of its life in Washington state away from our midwest salt, so the body is in pristine condition. Rides as good as any 30k mile American car I've owned and gets over 20 mpg to boot. Solid, solid truck. I'm impressed and want it to last me a good long time - I'm likely to put less than 5,000 miles per year on it.
So I need some advice. I want to make sure its serviced correctly and will do as much of the work myself as possible. Regular synthetic oil changes? No trouble. Spark plugs - can and probably should do at this mileage. Brakes? They'll be needed before winter comes around again and will be done by someone professionally.
What other service should I get right away at this mileage? Differential? Should I flush or drain and fill the tranny? Toyota original fluids or aftermarket synthetic (amsoil, etc..). Other tips hints and/or easy mods? Eventually I'll get it modded up with a lift kit, some new sound and other trinkets, but for now I want to spend money on making it last beyond 200k miles.
I know its capable if I do my part.
