Newbie: 2003 Sport, Question (Problem?)

Jeep to Yota

First of all, I realize this posting is worthless without pics, but I tried to post them last night and they were too big. Then I couldn't figure it out and got frustrated and quit.

Anyways, I purchased a 2003 T4R Sport this weekend!!! I had been looking at 3rd Gen's, but came across this one and couldn't pass up the deal and this was exactly was I was looking for.

Specs: Silver, Sport, V-8, Sunroof, Leather (added by previous owner), etc.

While I love everything about thie new truck, I do have one question (potential concern). Hopefully it is just me getting used to a new car and never being a Toyota driver, but I wanted to ask around to double check. When I am at a stop and then release the brake and before I push the gas, I feel a slight shudder, like the drivetrain in engaging. It doesn't happen everytime, but more often than not. Is this the Full Time 4WD engaging? Is this normal?

Any thoughts?

That is almost exactly what it is. If you search for this there are a bunch of threads about it. Lots of good info about it.

It's in the driveline, but has nothing to do with the 4 wheel drive perse. It's the splined shaft slipping. Check under search for "clunk".

Perfectly normal evidently, and caused by binding somewhere along the driveshaft. You'll probably find it happens more after you stop quickly and when the car's hot from city driving. I had a similar issue on my last Jeep and there was no ill effect in the years I owned it. My current 4runner does it every now and then.

If you do a search you'll find there are lubing solutions that some say work and other say don't work. A similar problem on the Lexus GX470 was fixed by a TSB. Nothing so far for 4Runners.
