Newbie from ND

New guy from North Dakota.

I was driving a 2004 Ford f150 4x4 for my daily driver up until a few weeks ago and my wife had a 2002 4runner. We got a new 2012 tacoma and I decided to sell the ford and just to show how nice a guy I am, I took the 4r and let my wife take the new tacoma.

And I have to admit she is pretty nice to me too. Since acquiring the 4r, I ordered a Toytec ultimate lift and installed it last Saturday. Today I had new tires put on. I went with the 255/85 16 toyo M-55. My son thinks I am a candidate for the short bus getting that size, but I really like the look and they will last an eternity on this light weight rig.

I hope to take some shots and post them later.

I also want to say what an awesome forum. Glad to be here.

Hiya gtbrain, and welcome! I'm one of your neighbors to the south, in Rapid City, SD. I've done some construction work up there the last couple years, along 85 where it crosses the Li'l MO, and on 12 near Rhame. What part are you from? I've gotta admit, I'm with your son on the tires--a little bigger won't hurt, and certainly would help if it sees more than asphalt (a nice 285/75 works well).

Bob, I live in Bismarck. I used to work and live in the NW part of the state years ago when I worked in the oilfield. Been on 85 many times. The bar band I play in, has been to Deadwood a number of times and played at the Saloon #10. Haven't been there for a while but it was a lot of fun the times we were there.

Yeah, I got some grief when my son seen them. LOL. He has an 05 tacoma. I will have to get some pics up. This 4r probably won't see a whole lot of rough 4 wheeling. I do a lot of hunting but nothing too wild. It will see a lot of gravel and scoria roads and from running this type of tire on my 1 ton duallys I used in the oilfield, it will hold up well I think.

I imagine you are having a pretty mild winter like we are experiencing this year? Usually we would be up to our armpits in snow but we have none to speak of.

Yeah, pretty wimpy weather so far. I'm not disappointed, though--I'm a summer kinda' guy. I've often considered going up and working the oil fields for a couple years, sock away some good money--just can't get past the part about living in a camper in the middle of nowhere for that long! Being there for my construction projects was rather annoying, having to drive 100 miles just for some average shopping (yuck!). I'm not a big city person, but I DO like to have access to supplies when needed, and not many hours away. On the tires, skinnies do have their moments--they'll get through where others won't sometimes, because they push through to good ground better. Enjoy the forum!
