Hi All, the 06 4Runner really got my attention after a test drive the other night, I have been looking at the Nissan Pathfinder and Xterra.
I have read this forum for a couple of days and have been searching for some definite answers but cant seem to find them on my on. So here are my ??s
1. Does the V8 full time 4 wheel drive stay in 2 wheel drive until 4 wheel drive is needed? Or is it 4 wheel drive mode all the time?

2. Bigone Is Satellite Radio available from the dealer yet? Not after market but what you would get from the Toyota Parts Dept. made for Toyota and the 4Runner and have them install it so the Sat button on the radio would work??? If not, any word when it will be available?? Seems to be mixed answers on this forum about this. Salesman said its not available.

3. Auto dimming rearview mirror with compass $499 from dealer. Does that sound right?

4. Homelink only comes from factory, not dealer add on??

Thanks

Welcome to t4r.org

1. The V8 is a full-time 4WD, much like a AWD car except it has low range. Power is split f/r 40/60, and can shift to 53/47. The V8 does not have a selectable 2WD mode, only 4WD V6 does.

2. Don't know.

3. That's :bs: No, you can get the mirror for much less. (I'd have them remove the mirror if it was almost $500.) Try partznet.com or eBay. FWIW, I have that installed as a factory option on my Camry, it was $265 on the sticker.

4. Correct, as an option. But you can just get the Homelink sunglass holder and add it in, after you take delivery. More info here.

Let me add to the workings of the "Torsen" limited-slip center locking differential (4WD system) on the 4Runner.

The system is full time on the V8 and works flawlessly. In the normal mode (unlocked) the system provides a 60/40% split in torque to the rear/front diffs. When a loss of traction is detected up to 71% of the torque can be directed to the rear and 53% can be directed to the front. In this mode the VSC system is also engaged. The system has the option to be locked, by a push of a button. In this mode the torque is split 50/50% and the VSC system is dis-engaged and the traction control is less sensitive. I have used this system in several different situations (including off-roading) and I can tell you it works GREAT!

Ok so the Full time 4WD in the V8 is like AWD with a 4LO button.
Nothing to worry about it being reliable??
No answer on the Satellite Radio from dealer yet?

Cant seem the find a SE with the auto dimming rearview mirror and homelink option. Is this combo rare??
Dealer said I could get the 4Runner without the dimming mirror and they would put one in for $499. It would be cheaper just to find one with it on it since its only a $125 option.

Choices,choices

It is unlikely you will find a SE with homelink or the dimming mirror only LMT seems to have these options. I added both myself. Homelink about $80 and 15 minutes install. Dimming mirror about $200 and 30 minutes install. By doing a little searching here you will find many that have added one or both and full instructions how to do it.

If Homelink is readily available how come the dealer cant get it for dealer installs?

Most likely due to demand. The dealer doesn't add it on because they probably can't charge some ridiculous markup for it, since the option already has a set price from Toyota, unlike adding rims, pin striping or underbody coating.

When did the 06s first hit the lots?

Late August, early September.

Does not sound like you have the best dealer/salesman.

$500 for the mirror?

Can't add Homelink??

Whoever you are dealing with at this dealership is a dunce. I'd find another dealership if possible. The buying and ownership processes will only get worse.

Because some people would consider buying a LMT just to have this or another small feature like this (mirror). More $$$ for Toyota.
