Newbie Here..

Hey guys, So I am new to Toyota and been a big diesel pickup guy forever until the rediculous fuel prices forced me to sell.So the next option was obviously something as reliable as a Toy. I just picked up a 97' 2wd,4cyl auto 4Runner for $4500 with 196,000 miles on it.It runs really good, little laggy but the mileage is AWESOMMMME! A couple questions for you regulars..

1}Truck seems to have an exhaust leak from the manifold somewhere, what is more than likely the cause..A-Gasket or B-actual manifold that could be cracked? It's not THAT bad..but would like to fix it soon.

2} Who else here has had an auto/4cyl/2wd combination that has some serious mileage on theirs? Mine was a 2 owner vehicle that was WELL kept and in excellent condition for the mileage.

3}Other pointers,tips,power adders or problems should I be aware of to check out on this thing before I get sidelined with a possible breakdown?

If I recall correctly, I think I remember 2.7L's being prone to the manifold's cracking. Not positive on this, though. No cracks from a visual inspection?

The only thing I can add is to make sure that the timing chain is still good. Do you know if it's been changed? Check for leaks, replace all the fluids, etc. It should last you a loooong time, if properly maintained. I know even some 3.4L guys are well above 300k.

P Nut: The engine compartment is SPOTLESS..no oil pan leaks, no head leaks {could be new head anyway,looks too clean}..it came off a dealer's lot in San Jose,Ca. The manifold visually doesn't appear to be cracked from what I can see in and around that heat shield..ya never know! Thanks for the advise bro!---Greg
