Newbie - Intro and some questions

Hello there

I've recently been diagnosed with 4Runner syndrome and will be going out to get the cure very soon. The cure turns as it turns out is a 4Runner Limited 4x4!

I live in California and have had a heck of a time trying to find a Limited with X-REAS and as I read through these forums I became more and more convinced that I was not willing to give up on that option.

Soooo Off to Arizona I go where I found an abundant supply of them. I've agreed with a dealer in Peroria AZ (Larry Miller Toyota) on a $300 over invoice price. I plan to fly out from CA to AZ and make a fun 2 day road trip out of my drive back.

Question 1: Any of you AZ folks ever deal with these guys? Guy I talked to on the phone was super-nice and seemed like a straight shooter. We didn't even have to haggle on the price he just offered it up at $300 over invoice.

Question 2: Am I nuts to travel to AZ just for XREAS?

X-Reas is worth it, just make sure you have an agreed upon price and they don't suddenly hike it on you or the vehicle you want is gone.

In your case, make sure they fax you some kind of vehicle form with the Vin and put a deposite on the vehicle for like 500, make sure it's refundable, you just want to insure them that your serious and the actual truck you want you will get.

Will be glad when you can join the club....as for traveling to Arizona to get the truck, no it's not crazy. Especially if you can get what you want at a price you're willing to pay. It's called free enterprise.

not a bad idea to me

i would try to get a copy of invoice faxed so there won't be any suprises and would be thinking about how the transaction itself will be accomplished out of town, ie have cashiers check, if cash deal, proof of insurance or financing arranged and acceptable with dealer. If you get stuck on any of those items, guaranteed the truck will end up costing more and more!!

Actually I called Capitol Toyota in San Jose after seeing one of your posts in another message about them having 4Runners with X-REAS. Guy I talked to there said they didn't have any and that I could special order it but it would take 6-9 weeks (by then the special financing/cash back incentive would be over). The dealer in AZ quoted me a price of $300 over invoice (before incentives, taxes and plates) and that was better than any CA dealer I had talked to. The cheapest I could get in CA was $500 over invoice.

I've purchased many cars in AZ (every make and model) and it's actually pretty easy to do. I have not personally dealt with that vendor but I am sure things will go smoothly.

Just make sure you get a paper confirmation of the full purchase price of the vehicle. Either by email or fax and bring that with you. What you need to make sure it has:

A copy of the vehicle invoice (usually it'll be the manufacturer invoice that they can send you if you request it.) it'll have the vin # along w/ the date it arrived and the when it was shipped to whom and to where. It'll have all the vehicle information you need there. The full spec will be there and will be one way to ensure that, that is the vehicle you want.

The second copy should be a sales contract of what the cost of the vehicle will prior to any dmv/state/fed fees (varies state to state... soo yah). If you want, you can even just pay that amount and walk away (which is what I usually do). I then take the sales receipt to the dmv and just pay my full fees (dmv/reg/taxes) there instead so the dealer doesn't try to stick it to me and take another penny

Usually dealers won't allow this but there are a few that might. Nonetheless, as long as you have the agreed price on the invoice you'll be fine.

Have you tried Magnussen's Toyota

in Auburn, Cal? They did me right and my wife also bought from them and they treated her right too. No bs. ASk for Mike Stewart. He was real straight shooter. They sell lots of 4 Runners here.
