Newbie looking for advice on upgrading headunit

Hi,
Just looking for some advice for my 2008 toyota 4runner, non JBL. I see names like eclipse and scion getting thrown around alot, but not sure why? Is it because if i get one of those units, I dont have to get the adapter to retain steering wheel controls or any other modifications?

If i dont get one of those, how easy is it to install the steering wheel audio control adapter, xm unit, and the headunit?

Also, budget is an issue, i dont really need DVD, but would like double din. Whats a good headunit to look for? Maybe something a little older that I can find for cheap on ebay?

You're correct. Eclipse and Scion HUs are popular due to them being plug and play. There isn't any additional harnesses or adapters required to install either one of those and steering wheel controls are retained.

excellent. So do i need to get a dash kit or mounting kit? I'm looking at a AVN20D
