Hi to all! I am in the market for a 2001-2002 4WD 4Runner, and wondered what issues, if any, these have. I am very familiar with car mechanics, but need some guidance as what to look for! Thanks,

I am dodging your question a bit, but I do not like the odds of finding a hidden problem during a driving test or one-hour mechanic's check. I would enhance the odds of a favorable outcome by first picking a 4R that has complete maintenance records for repairs and sheduled maintenence. A one-owner, dealer maintained car who also took it in as a trade-in is a real good bet. Avoid those that have evidence of off-roading or towing.

i will sell you mine for 20k... a little over blue book but hey...
i have an 02 and the only issues i have had with it was the starter/alternator, so i replaced both with upgraded components when they went out (same time) and other than the recall on the front suspension ball joints, i cant think of any other issues.
obvously check for rust, bent frame, alignment of steering wheel, if it has running boards, get under it and check it out, might be some mud if it has been wheeled stuck on the inside of the running boards (really hard place to clean). other than that, i cant think of anything that has gone wrong on mine that i havent caused, in fact, i even caused the starter/alternator to fail, i have close to 100k on it right now, and while it ticks and vibrates a little, its prob. due to the way i use/abuse my truck, it has wheeled all over tennesee, north carolina, georgia and florida and has never left me stranded.
toyota trucks are very reliable... you might be able to find one here for cheap, good luck
