Newbie needs help! Plug for radio, steering wheel audio control

Hey guys,
I recently purchased my 2nd 4Runner, a 2003 sport and love it...my 1st 4Runner was totalled a few years ago,watch out for moms in minivans running red lights!

My problem: The 4runner had an aftermarket radio in it when I purchased it. I was lucky enough to get a camry navigation unit from oemvalue; I had it installed and everything works great except for the steering wheel audio controls don't work. My stereo shop says I need to find an original plug from a 4runner for the steering wheel audio controls to work. Does anyone know where to find one or if there are any aftermarket plugs that will work?

That's weird. They CUT the plug off when they put the aftermarket HU in?!? Why would they do that I wonder...
Did you look very thoroughly in the dash for the plug? Maybe it's just hidden far down in the abyss....

Thanks for the suggestion. I just called Conicelli (partznet.com) and they said the plug is included on the intrument panel harness, which costs a couple thousand bucks...ouch! He suggested I get a wiring diagram somewhere, and then try to hand wire it into the back of the radio...any suggestions on where I could get a wiring diagram?

P.S. I have no idea why they cut the plug off, but I guess because the aftermarket radio needed a different setup.

This should link to the Solara NAV wiring diagram. If it doesn't work, just do a search for it.....

You can get the little connectors that will mate up with the pins at radio shack or any other electronics store. Just solder the connector to the wires and plug each one in to it's place....This will work just fine instead of using the oem plug. I have these little connectors on my speed and reverse sensors and they work just fine....

Maybe this will help you in finding it: It's a 20-pin plug with 3 wires, a white-red wire in position 6, a violet-white wire in position 7 and a yellow-black wire in position 8.

That why I don't let any of those fu$ker touch my chit! I do everything myself. their is no need to cut the steering control plug when installing a aftermarket HU. all you need to do is just unplug it from the stock HU..Im sure if you look hard enough it probably tape somewhere in their.
