Newbie needs Tranny help

Hey newbie here with some transmission issues. well here goes......so I have a 93 tr4 4x4. I had the transmission rebuilt by AAMCO in San Diego and I thought my problems were over right?......WRONG! I was in the Navy down there and when I got out I was driving it to the Bay Area and the Transmission only made about 50 miles before it pretty much blew up, if I dident stop the truck would have caught on fire. SO I uhauled the truck and when I got to the bay area I dropped it off at the AAMCO in San Rafael. I had the tranny rebuilt for a second time and I am still having Issues. The A/T light keeps coming on during long trips. about 50 miles or more.......I have to stop and let the light go off before I can start driving again. when I take it back to AAMCO they just try and charge me more money and tell me there is nothing wrong when it clearly slips out of first and revs high when shifting. They told me that i had a bad distrebuter cap, so they changed that still nothing fixed. I am at loss here because I still owe like two grand on this tranny and the problem is still not fixed. its like a bad nightmare or something..........

so at this point I drive it to school and work, its doesent give me any problems. only on long trips will the a/t light come on. thanks for the help and sorry for the complaining.

That is just not right The only issue I ever had with my 94 was the overdrive button not working on the side of the shifter. It was just a loose connection at the ECU.
I would get a hold of The AMCO corporate office and let them know of the situation. If you paid with a credit card put in a dispute with the credit card company for service not rendered by AMCO.

Unfortunately, that's standard practice for AAMCO. Stay away from the chains like them and Cottman. Best bet is to ask around a find an independent trans shop people reccomend.

I had my tranny rebuilt by a local shop (Kings Transmission in Glendale Ca) and I had the same problem. The A/T temp light would come on after about 50 highways miles. I noticed that if I kept the speed under 60mph, the A/T temp light would not come on. I brought the car back to the shop and they said the same thing...nothing is wrong, they did install a tranny cooler and charge me $40 for the B&M cooler. The light does not come on now but I noticed the A/T oil temp would get as hot as 260 degrees on steep hills.

Maybe the tranny cooler might help you. I personally don't think I should need one after a full rebuild. Needless to say, I stopped going to that shop.
