Newbie needs your opinion

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and am in the same dilemma. My wife has a 03 Land Rover Discovery SE7 which is nice but build like a piece of junk (My wife purchased it about 4 months before we met!). We have had a million problems with the Rover so I finally convinced my wife we need to get something more reliable since we are about to have our first baby in May. My problem is that I think the 10/11 4Runner is awesome compared to everything out there however the price is steep(in general, not compared to any other vehicle). We just sold our condo so we have the cash to purchase however I am debating if we should get an older vehicle and invest more cash or just go all out on the 4runner.

Anybody with a 5th gen have any regrets minor or major?

If so what other SUV would you choose?

Owners with children, how do you find the ease of use (getting them into and out of a child seat)? My wife is about 5'8 130 pounds.

From what's been posted on this forum, the Land Rover thing is pretty common. Glad to hear you've convinced her, and with a T4R it should be night/day from what you're used to up to this point.

I can't comment on the 5th gen, but I had a 3rd and have had a 4th for a few years now and most of those years were with child seats. Both T4R's worked awesome for them, they were a great height for loading/unloading and doors were nice and wide for getting in and out too. If you had 3 seats the Runners are a bit narrow, but 2 work just fine.

A buddy of mine had a Cherokee and it would've been like trying to fit the seat through a mail slot in comparison, lol.

Full out with a new T4R would be a nice option, but if you decide on a nice 4th gen I'm sure you'll be just as happy. Either way I'm sure you'll be happy with your decision.

In my experience this is always a bad idea, but I may well have a different idea than what you're implying.

You could probably get around $7-8k for the Rover if I'm not mistaken, which could pretty much all but cover a 3rd gen with low miles, or invest a nice chunk into a 4th gen. I would consider that, personally.
