Hi, can someone tell me what XREAS means? How about 4 gne? I figured it means fourth generation, but what IS a fourth generation 4Runner? I have a 2004, V8 automatic, full-time 4WD, SLR(?) (not Limited) and I don't even know what size engine I have. I know this sounds lame, but before I got the 4Runner I had a 1988 Toyota pickup (before they started naming them) and things seemed a lot more simple. I knew all the important stuff for it because I four-wheeled with it. I've only taken this 4Runner 4-wheeling once.

Thanks!

XREAS means the suspension setup that is on the truck. In my opinion, it stiffens up the suspension over a regular setup.

4th generation means that this is the 4th generation of 4runners... meaning this is the 4th body design.

You have a V8 which means 8 cylinders.

You have a SR5 or sport version. Do you have a hood scoop? hood scoop means sport version.

congrats on a BEAUTIFUL truck.

Wow! Thanks Canada! You are so helpful with those in depth explanations! That why we let you stay up there all to yourselves! ;): Stay cool iFORCE!

To be more specific, 4th gen started in 2003 and still producing.

Your V8 is 4.7 litres

Thank you all for your help. While I know what a V8 is, I didn't know the parameters of "4th gen" (thanks Kailua250) and the term "XREAS" really had me puzzled. I'm looking into replacing the dumb stock running boards with rock sliders and that was something to be aware of when installing them.

Here is a description of how X-REAS works:
X-REAS diagonally links the compression chambers of the shock absorbers (front left shock linked to rear right and front right linked to rear left) via a central control absorber. The system dramatically improves on-road handling and dampens body roll and pitch by passing small body motions from front to rear to increase overall vertical shock damping.
