newbie questions.

Just bought a '95, 6cyl, limited edition, 5 speed, 31 tires. It seems as if it is geared very low. At 60 in 5th gear it tachs at 2800. It feels like it wants another gear. Is this normal?

At a first road trip of mostly freeway it got about 18mpg. It has 147K on it.

I don't think the factory provided a limited slip diff. What's a good source for a simple, reliable one. No lockers wanted.

A lot of the lamps are burned out. How do I replace the two over the front mirror? I started to pry but was afraid I would break it. I don't see any screws.

I've googled the web looking for parts suppliers, but all I can find is the general stuff, filters, gas caps, etc. Is there a good source for 4Runner-specific parts, like light switches, instrument clusters, etc??

I'll think of more questions tonight while I'm in the shower....... do my best thinking there...

Maybe start one question at a time or else the thread will be all over the palce in no time.

The RPM indicated for the speed doesn't sound right at all. Have youchecked if your clutch is slipping?? Or maybe validate if your Revcounter is correct or speedo.

I'm pretty sure the clutch is OK. Did a start from a dead stop in 2nd gear up an incline. The engine rattled but it pulled up.

As the accuracy of the tach.... it's stock. Can I check it with a timing light or do I need to talk my local mechanic into computerizing it?

You can normally get a cheap little tuning unit at a auto shop to read engine RPMs. It clamps around a plug wire and will read RPM. If the clucth feels OK one of the instruments looks to be off a bit. Is your gearing and tires still stock?

!. does not sound like it is that far off I will check my RPM's to see what I get.
2. 18MPG is good

3. They pry out...but there is a little black button in the middle of the 2 lights that turns them on and off did you check that first?

4.Look for stuff on E-bay and Junk yards are a good bet.

5. I do my best thinking on the can..opps that was not a question:D
