Excitement.....best word to describe it.

Just got rid of my 2004 M3 Convertable and finally got into a 4runner. Been looking at one since before i bought the m3 but with the m3 becomming a pit of unreliability, it was time.

So i now have a 05 Sport V8 4wd in Natural White with no real options...man its so nice not to have all that techno crap to worry about.

I hate being that new guy that knows nothing as I was a moderator for 2 BMW boards so the board will not need to worry about me making stupid posts about hp/trq, wheels, tires and all that crap...I know where the search button is.

Great to be here...

Welcome to the forum! I can relate all too well to your situation. I traded my '04 4Runner for a Volvo S40 and it had too many issues with sensors, electronics, brakes, radio, ect. so I decided to file a lemon law lawsuit against Volvo and I actually won in the end. So over this past weekend I went BACK to the Toyota dealership and picked up an SE V8 and needless to say I learned my lesson the hard way. Post some pics when you get a chance, I actually wanted a white SE, but they only had one to choose from so I was somewhat limited. ;):

Speaking of m3's a fellow Northeasterner (bobby) has a silver one. I beleive that it is a 2000 or so. The thing is a beast

Nice choice of color. :-) Just as a heads up, The JDM Black Tail lights look bitchin' on the white 4R.

your not helping my sickness man...i have already held off on thinking about exhausts and drop in filters already, and now you're talking about tail lights....i cant escape the mod bug. Thanks for the heads up, i thought to myself before that the white would look good with darkened lenses but I didnt know they existed. Very cool

Are you the one with the Dinan SC M5? I heard there was only one guy with it. As chunderboy misspoke (:p) I have a 98 M3 with a few mods. He's seen and heard it.
 
With all that time

you're saving by not spending it with the M3 in the shop, you can troll the 4Runner pages for all your info.
 
Hey now.

I've had no problems with my M3 in 88k+ miles. Well, there was that off at 100+mph at Willow Springs that broke my diff bolt. But that was my fault. It's been rock solid for me. The 4runner is a fun new toy though :D.

mine is not supercharged by dinan...but by a company up in North Cali called Discovery Automotive. As for m3's, E36's are really where its at...i dont doubt that you have had few to nil issues with your car as the new BMW's get the less reliable they become. My buddy had a 99 M3 and i loved it and it was more reliable as a 4 year old car than my 2 year old car was.

thanks...i might spend, but that time will come soon enough. Boats and houses are what have my interests mostly right now. Although ill never rule out a mod on a car.
 
Welcome to the board. Good luck with the new 4Runner. Both of your vehicles are great looking. BMW's are nice cars if they work, but when they give you trouble, they are a PAIN! My parents had two X5's (one was traded for the 2005 4Runner already) and the problems were no stop. Everything from the heat pump to the navigation system went on it. I thought the M3/3-series was the most reliable BMW model. Little did I know!

The e36 (92-99 3 series) and e39 (95-2003 5 series) were great platforms and mostly reliable. There are a few maintenance issues that need to be dealt with but most are minor and if you keep up with it, they're trouble-free. They do need more attention than a Toyota or Honda but they're also much more fun to drive.

The X5 is built in Spartanburg, SC, not Germany. I have a friend with an X5 and he hasn't had any problems but he doesn't really drive it much.

Casper - Sorry to hear about your problems with your M3. I would think by the 3rd year they would've fixed all the little problems.
